Hi, I have a Uk '83 Mondial Qv, I am interested in either a Capristo or a Tubi for this car, has anyone used both or have friends with either who have compared them, also does anyone know where I can buy either of them in the Uk, any help would be greatly appreciated

I had a single cat tubi, which I found a bit loud and high pitched, although I could feel the engine rev easier and the construction was a work of art. I've only ever heard the Capristo on a sound file, but it seems a bit smoother and lower toned and less of a boy racer sound.
Really depends what kind of sound you are looking for.
I understand the Larini amd Quiksilver outfits out of London also make quite excellent s/s exhausts that many Americans import in favor of a Tubi/Capristo. Certainly worth a listen if you are in London. They both advertise in the popular British magazines such as Classic Cars.

Thanks Rt for the info, do you know of any links that have sound files, I know you can't really appreciate listening to them through small speakers but at least I can get some idea, Cheers pete

I have a largish sound video file of a Mondial 3.2 with a Capristo. PM me an email address and I'll forward it. Best off the shelf I've heard.

I'd be suprised if site sponsor Tubi though Scuderia Systems UK can't do you a sound file

Yes, I replaced with Quicksilver. I believe they are in London. They made from scratch for $2500.00 Plus I paid them $500.00 expediting charge when they told me 4 weeks. I had the headers on my car in Detroit 10 days after I ordered them even though they warned my it may take a while to get metal tubes thru customs. I was very pleased with the quality... perfect fit.

Here are photos before and after coating. The coating was baout $300.00 from jet-hot. (see their website)

If you want a stainless exhaust, consider the Larini. Also made in England, I believe. Much less expensive than Tubi, but a beautiful unit.

    Dang - that is beautiful!!
I saw Larini also makes one for about 1000 British Pounds. It looks like a very well done piece. Did you buy direct or from a distributor?

Ditto above, the Stebro systems is a great sounding system. I have a Stebro exhaust and cat replacement straight ("test") pipe on my previously single cat 328 engine. Sounds deeper and richer than the Tubi. Definitely less bling than the Tubi as it comes in straight up dull stainless but I actually prefer that look to polished. Construction quality is very nice.

    Dear Russ,

Do you still have the sound file of the capristo exhaust.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
I am still in doubt what exhaust to buy for my euro 328.

    Regards

    Patrick

    I'd also consider X-OST.

I bought from them directly. Very satisfied...

    Patrick, et. al.,
Here's the video of a Mondial with a Capristo exhaust on Putfile. I think it is one of the best sounding OTC I have heard.

Just as a comparison, if you go to the other videos "From This Person" section, there are two short videos of my Mondial with the muffler we did ourselves. The car had not been tuned yet, so it pops a little from unsynchronized carbs. It soumds like the Capristo, except a little deeper since it is a flow through (you can roll a golf ball from one side to the other). Not bad from $400 worth of materials.

Better in what sense? Value for money? Weight savings? Construction? Sound preference is a personal thing. I've got a Tubi and no cat. on my 328. It's too loud (for me) for any long-term driving unless you really keep the rpm's down and then what's the point? Having said that, I love the tone but for short periods of time only. I would not want to take it on a long trip. The fact that I removed the A/C and one fuel tank helps keep me from going on long trips also :)
