Hi all - my 550 seems to have reached the age at which a lot of things are getting replaced. Just got a new fuseboard to sort recurring electrical issues, and need a new front actuator. I found in the archives that a guy in Wisconsin rebuilds Vette actuators, which are conveniently the same as our 550 actuators - Captain Z CNC. They rebuild the actuator with billet aluminum parts to replace the die cast and plastic gears.

Any one have any experience with Captain Z?

A search here will yield a ton of info - there are plenty of threads on Captain Z. Many, myself included, have had good experiences with them - would highly recommend!

Ah, thanks - my search had been too restrictive, and I see now that there are several recommendations on the 355 channel! All good, off it goes to Captain Z tomorrow.

Actually only a few are the same. Most have only one Hall effect sensor while Ferrari requires two sensors. I don't have the part number of the one that works but here are part numbers of those that do not have two Hall effect sensors
The good news is that the mechanics are the same so it's possible to graft a Ferrari motor to a Corvette actuator.

Corvette actuators that will NOT work are part numbers: Please add more if found.

Happy to report that the actuator got rebuilt by Captain Z and working well. Lightning fast turnaround. Has been installed and so far so good!

I am glad you received you actuators back, should last forever. you do not have that annoying light anymore. watch for twisted cables, specially the front one.
