Pontiac Saab Buick SSC (Ultimate Aero) Jaguar Cadillac Chrysler Dodge Hummer Lincoln Mercury Suzuki Volvo GMC: chevy make the same thing, GMC models are just jazzed-up more... Saturn What's everyone's lists?
This thread is silly since the world can live just fine without any of these major sports car brands.
I'd keep Saab, Cadillac, and Jaguar. They at least try to be something different. The world needs car manufacturers that dare to be different, otherwise we end up with nothing but clones of Toyotas and Lexuses (or is the plural of Lexus "Lexi"?). However, each of those three manufacturers needs to be led by a visionary designer. Someone who is passionate about the brand and willing to take some chances.
Maybe because that SSC is capable of smashing his dream car in performance My list Toyota-exclude Scion Honda Audi-Nothing personal Nissan Ford-as well as there subdary companys Volvo MB AMG BMW Saab Buick(Unless they plan on bringing back the Grand National) Bugatti Koennegsegg Mitsubushi GMC-no need to have a brand that builds nothing but 4X4's and have hummer under the same roof VW Saturn KIA Mosler Fiat Renault
Why Toyota and not Scion? Why Honda? Why Koennigsegg, Bugatti, VW, and BMW? Hell, without VW Lambo would probably be a dead duck.
Oh, brother. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_automobile_manufacturers#World.27s_largest_vehicle_manufacturers
Your screen name is Pantara and yet Ford is on your list? Fiat? You do know fiat owns the majority of Ferrari don't you? VW and Lambo has already been addressed. I rather have GMC stay and kick Hummer to the curb (no pun intended). At least GMC is a little more useful for as a ultility vehicle (Construction, Farming, Etc.)
I say the more, the merrier. What was considered high performance 20 years ago has trickled down to mainstream cars because of competition breeding innovation. Now we see minivans with more horsepower and better fuel economy than some older Corvettes and Ferraris. Nothing bad can come from so many options for the consumer. For instance, while you might not want to buy a Volvo, they're partly responsible for pushing safety improvements for all marques.
Not anymore... If you look at Saabs now, they're just rummaging thru the GM parts bins for everything, such as climate control, radio, etc. There's nothing unique about it... THe 9-7x is nothing, but a reskinned Trailblazer. Cadillacs are reskinned Chevys. The Escalade is nothing but a Tahoe/Suburban, with more chrome and wood. Jaguar doesn't deserve to stay a float. All they're recent cars are car-bage besides the new sedan (XF,) which looks pretty decent.
I agree with you on most of these, but Toyota and Honda: this world would be full of unreliable junk without them... Audi: without them, your everyday sedan wouldn't have AWD. Quattro is an engineering marvel. Nissan: We wouldn't have the GTR MB AMG: gives BMW a run for its money... Straight line speed is what AMG is about. Mitsu: No Evo? Buggati: they've pushed the envelope in terms of perfection. Even though that car (Veyron) is loaded with electronics, it will still be less problematic, and much more reliable, then a Ferrari. (this could be debated though.) VW: Who else is going to bring Diesels to the US? Fiat: Ferrari wouldn't be here, if Fiat went bust...
I have to defend Volvo. I have had friends and family survive horrible accidents because of Volvo, not to mention all the innovations they brought to safety across marques as previously mentioned. I have a hard time reading the list and see it anything but personal, but hey, w/e.
Lol I'd keep Jag. I agree the current cars aren't their golden era, or anything close, but compared to what's out there in the mainstream luxury market I'm grateful there are still some XKs and XFs on the road. I could see losing these with no real trauma to the car market: Saab (It's just a Subaru) Subaru (They look like Subarus -- still -- after three decades of dorkiness) Buick (Nothing distinctive since the 1960s. When they were garbage anyway.) Chrysler (Maybe Avis could use Hondas instead... I can't understand how a Civic is better to drive than every Chrysler rental car I get...) Dodge (Before they put a Ram pickup grille on their roadster.) Lincoln (Unless they bring back the Blackwood pickup - so you can haul firewood to black tie events.) Mercury (Too much of this stuff finding its way into seafood.) Suzuki (Even teenage girls have too much pride for these things.) Acura (We get it, it's like a Honda with leather. Thing is, you can get leather in a Honda.) Bugatti (I know, sorry, but realistically it's a one-off with no relevance to anyone but a few Arab princes; an exercise in brand hubris.) Maybach (It's not an S-Class. Really. It's not. Really...) Morgan (WWII is over. Deal with it.)
Are you saying as of now? Like drop the ax and they're dead? And the economic implications would be...? I guess that doesn't really matter, why delay what may be inevitable lol
rofl at all of these saabs have looked the same for decades, just like porsche, except porsche design has been boring fo three quarters of a century hooray for consistent crap
While the sport utes might be re-skinned Chevys, Cadillac sedans are pretty much unique to Cadillac. Most have overhead cam multi-valve engines, fully independent suspension, the CTS and STS are both rear wheel drive, The STS can have AWD. The New CTS-V will have a 550hp motor and will be available with three pedals. no way are they re-skinned CHEVYS
Can we just cut to the chase and say if every brand vanished overnight, EXCEPT Ferrari, we could still find a way to go on?
