I saw a very unique/bizarre car collection today. No Ferraris, but a VERY rare 1950 Abarth 205 Vignale Berlinetta (3 built, only 2 exist), and some other nice cars that need lots of tender loving care, including a very old Bugatti that's in the "living room" of the owner. Kinda felt like I was involved in a "barn find" experience. The guy apparently is very a reclusive person.
Yes, that's S/N: 205103, sister car (2nd one built) to 205101, owned by Scott Emsley in CA (which will be on display at Concorso in Monterey...). This car made the cover of Al Cosentino's "Abarth Owner's International" book, #002-88. It appears to not have changed condition since then. Apparently, #205105 (the third and supposedly last) was a convertible, but it seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Earlier this year, a forth one (S/N: 205102) was sold at the Christies auction at Retromobile in France. Which took me by surprise, since it was an even-numbered car and I never heard of it before. Now, does that mean there was/is 205104?... If you ever do go back to visit this collection, I'd love to see it too.
Gary, I am a Bugatti lover and it appears that you photographed a Bugatti Type 35 from what I can see of it. Where is this collection if I may ask. I would love to see a REAL Type 35 some day. This car won over 2000 races in the 20's and early 30's. The ultimate in art and a race car. Bob Parks
Do you know what the Can-Am looking red car is in the background in pic #4? Cool collection - hope they get 'em running even if not restored. Cheers Kevin
Kevin, I believe that one is a kit car (Sbarro?) with a Chev 350 V8 in it. The owner also has a Ford GT40 "kit" that he is in the process of building.
Bob, Yes I believe that it is a Type 35.... believe it or not, it's in his "living room"! The collection is over near Port Townsend. The owner is very reclusive and the only reason we got to see it is because a member of the Fiat Club (I'm in that club too) is a nearby neighbor and he talked the guy into letting us come by and look. Gary
WOW! That is a great find! Very, very cool to find these types of collections. It can be an almost eerie feeling when you walk into a room like that. I am jealous, as I love to get into these types of situations and dream about what I would do with each car. Dave
