If interested, I know of a nice place, well located, in Newport Beach. I'd have to look again, but memory tells me it will accommodate between 10-15 cars. They are asking 5K per month.

I am interested. I currently have use for one space, but would want an additional space in about a year. Finding 10-15 cars to maintain a low monthly cost may not be easy.

my thoughts were multiple 1800sf spaces. One for clean storage the other for wrenching and such. Or stacking cars. part of my plan is a four post lift.

I've made some calls, and $300 is normal for clean, secured storage with in-out privileges. As posted earlier, I was impressed with Rancho Santa Fe Motor Storage & Club when I took a tour. Not only did it seem clean and spacious, but with an electronic gate and private codes for clients and a nice lounge area it's exactly the kind of place you'd want to use to meet up for a drive, or to have a "congrats on the new car" party, etc.

Crevier, in OC, was closer to $500, and they're short on space.

Yes, you can store vehicles for less, but I think we're looking for something nicer than a warehouse with rollup door and a bunch of cars stacked on lifts.

If you have the space building or adding garage space at home is always a better way to go. For most people that is just not a option regardless of cost. Funny thing about garage space. The more stalls you have the more likely one will fill them. Happened to me.

Agreed. I started this because I need a place to store my vehicles and garage contents while my home garage is being expanded.

there is a nice place in West LA called Auto Concierge.... its located too far to be useful for the OC/IE people but it fits well the description of what you guys are talking about.

None of these places let you wrench on your own cars. All claim liability issues.

I'll share with you my experience is buying a building and turning it into a car storage: I purchased two buildings side by side (18,000 sft for my business, and 6000 sft because it was the same seller and the price was right). I gutted both of them to the core and remodeled with the best of everything. The next step was "what to do with the 6000 sft building"? I thought I'd lease it out, but then realized how I'm always complaining I don't have car space at my house. Hence, I thought...man cave, extra garage space, and perhaps a small car storage business to try and justify not leasing the entire building. Finding customers is not easy (although I must admit I'm not really trying very hard). I do have 3 friends paying $250 per month. I guess my best customer turned out to be myself as I've acquired 7 more collectible autos since finishing the building... so at least the building is getting used... by me. Bottom line, I've found it's not worth being a landlord and chasing a few hundred bucks. There are better things to do with a couple mill than to try and make a car storage biz break even.
And a small ad if I may: the building is in Torrance - camera's, 24 hour security, lounge, offices, bathrooms - all new. If you need a spot, PM me.

Have you found anything? I just want a clean, secure location, with other car fanatics, at a reasonable price...by the coast. I use a storage facility down the road at $300/month. So, it would need to be less than $300 for me to want to move.

$250 sounds reasonable. Any pics? What part of Torrance? Lift? Wrenches?

I believe the value would work out better if a price was put on space (ex. 15x10 ft) rather than a price per car. That way, the indivudual can decide and pay for his own 4 post if he chooses to store 2 cars. 2 cars for $250-300 is not bad.

4 post lift size 9x14 ft. So lets say each space takes 10x15 ft (150 sq ft.). You have 1800 sq feet of warehouse space. Take off 1/3 for driveaway space (to conveniently pull cars in an out without having to move someone else's car). You're left 1200 sq ft. That's about 8 spaces. Rent + utilities + misc. $1700 a month? $200-$250 a month?

Having an extra 1800 sq ft. Building at an extra $1700 a month strictly for wrenching will surely double the cost per"space." The only way to bring it down is to use half of the building for wrenching and another half for storage (4 additinal storage spaces). So $3400 (2 buildings)/12 spaces = $285 roughly per space. Still not a bad value, especially if you are storing 2 cars.

I rent an airport hangar near the LA county fairgrounds. There are quite a few car guys and shops locally that rent hangars to store cars for owners.price is right and it's a gated and secured facility. A few of us have lifts 2 and 4 posts. Just an option as this location may not be ideal but maybe another airport near you works. 1050 per month and there are guys storing 8 cars per hangar without lifts.
