that's a lot of people, but i know what you mean ...i guess i was better to say "not as small" :)

    true :)

may i ask ...did you guys have much encouragement getting into design? or self taught more so? ...mind you this is a different time, much more structured socially for eductional requirements & many more schools for design than once was

I knew that I had to be a car designer when I was around 7-8 yrs old.Just knew it.Unfortunately was clueless as to how exactly to make that happen.High School for me was a bust.Counselor told me to forget about college, and figure something else out.I wasn't the best student. Was more interested in cars & girls,I guess. But the one thing that was so important was drawing.....all the time! So,no,not much encouragement.

Wound up getting a Degree in Product Design, then went on to get a Trans Design Degree. Finally had figured it out by then ;)

The MBA & Culinary School came later :)

very cool ...that's something i want to instill in my boys, that they can pursue what ever path they want ...in my case, i was the first to go to college (just vocational) in my immediate family (on my own accord), but i was never made to think i could go after loftier goals (like architecture, discouraged actually), that $$ was to much ...well, it's even more $ nowadays ...that, and they can always find a way monitarily ...a formal education is so fundament, essentially you can't go anywhere without now

i did notice they were all deserts ...that's not a bad thing, just saying :D LOL

heard from Bounce, he's cool with what ever you guys decide :)

was checking out 'car styling' magazine ...wow, hang on to your copies, getting back issues is $25 each  ...of course they were $30
sad to see they stopped publishing (may 2010) after 35 years worth

Oh good, you are back from the Architecture thread!
Car Styling is the best. I was so bummed when they were discontinued.

The market for a $30 automotive design book I am sure has always been small (even though it is the coolest) and with all the online info available I guess they couldn't make it work. Each issue was quite an undertaking.

Each book was around 125 pages. A yearly subscription, 6 issues, was $175 I believe.

here's a loaded question ...of say the last 10 year series of car styling magazine, which individual mags are note worthy getting hold of??

i have a huge collection of past R&T / C&D / automobile, etc ....and some are better editions than others, for example

If you go to the website and click on each issue it gives a detailed description of the contents. Finding the types of cars you are interested in would be a good way to go. I also enjoy the student projects from the grad classes from the colleges and the major car show coverage.

yes, i have actually, but was curious which ones you guys find ...like my others some are so so, others better :)
John has an amazing collection of them all, but i can't really justify dropping lot$ on the same, so want to narrow down a few to start

i noticed the edition on rhino 3d rendering is sold out :( ...what program(s) do you (industry) use the most?

I like Volume 91, November 1992, there is a nice picture of me :). Funny story, Mr. Honda was visiting (His last visit), it was a big deal and everyone would get a chance to meet him.
We had a young secretary who was very pregnant and when Mr. Honda came through the studio, she was standing next to me. Mr. Honda greeted her and then looked at me with the "Good job" look. It was pretty funny.
