The car is pretty cool, but I have 'issues' with the front end

    more specifically?

Although the center grill surround looks a bit clumsy, the front looks a lot better with the plexi headlight covers in place that aren't in any of those early photos.

Here's a link to Velocetoday that shows the final version.
Past and Present Alfa Part 2

The only part of the car that I take issue with is the honking great exhaust on the side of the car...

You guessed it, the front execution looks 'back ally crude' to my eye. I know it's a one-off etc, but that face is one of the most important elements of any car, and if it's not right.........it's not right. For all the time spent on the rest of the car to have a big shipping strap surrounding the central grille just looks 'homemade'
He gets an A for effort from me and a B+ for execution. :)

The rest of the car is fine, IMVHO.

...I may need a good deal more scotch before I can see trading the R8 for any one of those....but I applaud the search for the next form.....I guess....

Not to worry............I seriously doubt any of those will ever see the light of day
it's the search and exploration that's important :)

 If it looks like "other things" then you really should get that checked out. :D

I can't really articulate why, but I really like that particular concept. Maybe it's just that the design eschewed the usual super-high sides (e.g. Chrysler 300C) that a lot of concepts go for and so doesn't look like a tank or pillbox fortification. Do you have specific thoughts on that one, John?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

the wheel arches are a bit OTT with the large flat surface in side view
the amount they rise above the main body is 'probably overstated' :)
but what I am fascinated with are the unusual proportions with the upper to lower relationship, eschewing the slab sided look so many cars have today
with some judicious refinement, it could be improved upon and still look quite unique
but hey, it's a raw statement, so I give it kudos for breaking out from the 'lookalike mold'

it reminds me of two recent concept cars...from American luxury car makers :) (FYI: I like the Lincoln, but LOVE the Caddy)

I do like the lower beltline/taller greenhouse. too many "chopped bathtub" cars out there.

wheel arches on the Audi concept are a bit overdone ;)

I find this quite compelling; as you say, good starting point.

It looks to be something of a "double-ender" like Dick Teague's first Hornet concept where all 4 fenders & all 4 doors (I think) were the same pressings.

The first car I thought of was the Matra 530!

BTW, the wheel arches are NOT OTT; the wheels just need to be designer size...:)

I remember seeing Teague's AMC Cavalier concept that was like that. Hood and trunklid were identical also, I think.

At the risk of some self promotion, I put together an article for Southwest Star MBZ magazine on the Art Center Car Classic in October. What a great event. I also gathered the best of stories and photo galleries and a few videos from around the internet. There are some really good photographers out there. All are gathered here at the link:

I also put up a few photos of the GM Chaparral 2X Vision Grand Turismo concept car that was on display at this link as well -

With all due respect to the Lexus Design team, I completely disagree with the execution of the 'Face' they are using
But they are smarter and get paid more than I do, so it's their call.....:)
We can talk all day long about the need to 'be different' and to 'stand out', but seriously?
But as the one article pointed out, that customer doesn't make their purchase decision on appearance..........unfortunately

I had that Predator pic on my phone and was holding it up, comparing it to the Lexus at the show. Got a few chuckles from passerbys with that.

Makes the Aztec look positively beautiful. :)
