upcoming gallery show in Detroit of automotive design sketches & renderings from the '30's - '70's the show is of the artwork that was done in designing the cars from that time period some very cool work will be on display I'll post this in the Michigan section as well for those of you traveling to the NAIAS in January Image Unavailable, Please Login
Disappointed by the lack of breakthrough thinking... they all look like developments of current styling to me. Only the silver hoverboard (and that's a 60s flashback) has any futuristic suggestion to it. That feeling is only reinforced by the poster above ^^^ - just remember how that 1953 concept would have compared with anything on the roads at that time! Image Unavailable, Please Login

Henrik Fisker's life just gets curioser & curioser : Henrik Fisker Files $100 Mil lawsuit Against Aston Martin | TheDetroitBureau.com
That's a shame. A M seems poised for one hell of a comeback. (MB engines, they snatched up the head chassis guy from Lotus, etc.)
Uh oh. Aston Martin probably have much greater depth of legal pockets than he does. I can't see a small privateer sustaining protracted litigation and he'll probably get his ass handed to him in countersuit. All the best, Andrew.
it will be fun to watch how all this unfolds maybe he just wants A. publicity B. out of court settlement

Got the 2 volume Mitchell book. Impressive! #4 of 25. John: Did not realize/remember that you did the interview with Roy that is in volume 2. Jeff
I wonder if the aesthetics of the Bentayga will grow on people when the vehicle itself proves to be a capable and quality product, a bit like how the Continental GT grew on folks after a while - I like the Continental GT now, but I had to get used to it. I've got a similar feeling of initial recoil from the Bentayga... although admittedly I often have to recover from a bit of shock over new designs. I have been wondering if, like many current Ferraris, it seems to be targeting the design aesthetics that appeal to the Asian markets. Aspects give me visions of a Hyundai homage to Range Rover, albeit with a Bentley face. Which, really surprises me from this particular designer because (my quick web search just told me ) he's the one who designed the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and the 2004 Buick Velite, both of which were very cool cars of very American design language. The design language of the Bentayga really doesn't speak to me with a British accent. All the best, Andrew.
Been going through it but some very interesting discussion in volume 2. You have your copy yet? Roy also wants me to give him my comments after going through it. Was seeing some items that I have not done more than a gloss over so far that give the discussion on the demise of GM Design in the post Mitchell eras. What the corporation did to strip the power. Definitely want to get further into that. Seems to have a first inkling of coming attractions when Jordan got shipped to Germany and Ribycki instituted organizational changes. Obviously well before Mitchell's retirement but seemed to set the stage for all the future politics 10 years later. Jeff
yes I got my copy it's fun to read through some of that material as I was there watching it all unfold brings back many memories......both good and some not so good
I know the Bentayga has received criticism from many quarters for a myriad number of reasons, Bentley SUV? and the design etc. Personally, I like the design. It's very closely associated with the Continental GT, which is one of my favorite current designs. It telegraphs the Brand's Design language quite well. Conservative? Yes......it's a Bentley. When all the hand wringing is over, the ultimate goal is to sell vehicles that represent the brand and can make a profit for the company. I believe the Bentayga will do all these quite well. The designer, Sang Yup is a former GM Designer, and I can't say enough good things about his skill set, talent and judgement. They're in good hands as long as VW can stay afloat
It's very difficult to establish a case like this regarding design copyright infrindgement. The fact that the legal brief states that AM does not know what the Force 1 will look like says it all for me. It will be difficult for AM to prove that the Force 1 looks like an AM, but that's for a jury to decide. There are very few 'original' designs, and like music & film, most designs have been influenced by a myriad number of things. I seriously doubt Mr. Fiskar will get $100M however, but with the legal system, ya just never know I'll have to wait and see the Force 1 for myself. Hopefully it will be in Detroit next week. As an aside, many yrs ago when I was Exterior Chief Designer for one of the Pontiac Studios, GM got several letters from BMW telling us to cease and desist from using the Pontiac Twin Port grille designs. Truth was , Pontiac started using a Twin Port front end design in 1959 with a horizontal theme. Over the course of years, the grilles became narrower. BMW started using a vertical Twin Port front end design in the '30's. As their cars got wider over the years, their grilles became horizontally proportioned. The 2 companies front ends converged in the '80's - '90's. We didn't copy them & they certainly didn't copy Pontiac. But my position was no one would ever confuse a Pontiac for a BMW God forbid the GM attorneys told them to go 'pound sand'..........and we never responded to their 'demands' ultimately, the whole thing went away there was also much legal wrangling (no pun intended) over the Jeep 7 vertical port front end V. the Hummer 7 vertical port designs. Hummer, along with Pontiac went away.....so another non-issue Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did Sang Yup also do the Bentley Speed 6 green show car? The Speed 6 is a design you don't have to make excuses for on the outside or the inside. The Bentayga will sell on the Bentley name alone to a good percentage of buyers... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Because it's painted green? Just kidding. No I think it is mostly a unique look the flows well but with some nice Bentley character details. The tail lights reminded me of a 1962 Oldsmobile 88 though... Image Unavailable, Please Login
'62 Olds 88? Had to go back & look.............you're right! Couldn't even recall what the rear of a '62 Olds looked like. I'm slippin'
