    You pretty much nailed it
But one still has to explore.
Leather ain't going away as a lux cue IMO

Well yes, it does make a statement, but I have no idea what it's trying to say...

Is M-B planning to bring the Maybach bach?
If so what customer is this beast aimed at impressing?
It's hard to imagine who would want one. Impossible to drive in any city or park, assuming you can even get yourself into it without injury.
For all its excess, the "design" is simplistic and uninteresting.

If this is intended to display M-B design prowess, it is a "massive" failure!

Sometimes a company will 'come off the rails' in trying too hard
If and when this gets 'uncreated' for a production version, not much will be left, but I think this is more of an exercise than anything else.

It would appear this may be one of those situations

    That's interesting in a good way. :)

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of being in convertibles or open top cars (personal hang-up after a bad crash), but I quite like the way that looks.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

So... not to be a pain because by in large... you guys are absolutely correct.

However, in the 1930s... leather was not the premium option. Cloths were. I think that is the significance of the cloth in these modern car especially display at pebble. The 30s crowd gets it.

A "town car" back then would have a leather drivers cabin and a cloth passenger cabin because it was more luxurioius and more designer (available patterned options). A Ford Model A would have a leather seat as would a duesenberg roadster because leather was seen as all weather friendly. It was luxurious to be enclosed and you would therefore use more delicate materials. Cloths were the luxury of the time. Anyone could go out and kill the cow for hide. (not exactly but you get where I am going)

I think the car is actually very similar to the cars that were on display on the lawn. Namely the delahayes. If there was a modern version of a delahaye it would probably be pretty similarly shaped to that car.

The car, like almost every single concept car will be NOTHING like it. They will water it down ever further. Make it more drivable as some have mentioned in this thread that it would be impossible to drive... and therefore ruin the "greatness" it had as a concept and become just another boring expensive luxo-barge. sad.

The world could use some statement cars. The Pagani is that of the sports car world. It would be nice to bring back the luxury sector especially as well all drift towards autonomy

That's an interesting perspective. I was born in the 1980s and am more drawn to the 348 era and 1990s cars (don't we like what was new when we were ~10 years old? :D), so really don't know anything about 1930s-era cars.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    You are 100% correct.
Lux cars had high end cloth interiors for many yrs along with leather
Looking back throughout history. cloth was just as premium as leather was
Cadillacs/ Rolls etc had a variety of material choices
today's paradigm is leather.....tomorrow? who knows?
Alcantara has become an option in high-end sports cars

The possibilities of what can be done with leather for texture and weaves have yet to be explored by automotive.

Cloth has real luxury possibilities but getting something durable with a real luxury "hand" to it will be difficult. Look to the 1930 to find mohair and wool broadcloth..

Alcantera just a type of vinyl.

There's too much padding in unnecessary places in today's supercars that sacrifice additional weight for unneeded support.
Soon we should be having lightweight shells with gel pads in just the right places using breathable and grippy flyknit textiles.

That "car" was old before it was shown. How one can consider that a futuristic concept car is beyond me. Aircraft were made from fabric from the first world war back to the original flying machines. Try parking one of those GINAs in the Bronx, there won't be anything left of it to come back to.

    Nice video. :)

The exterior looks excellent, but unfortunately the interior looks cheap. The wood and fabric look like an exercise in recycled/eco-friendly options and not something I'd expect from a luxury marque.

If they had an option for a more natural-looking wood grain and an all-leather interior, it'd really raise the perceived quality of the car.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
