Scoop is on both sides. The scoop is the best part of the car. And the little windows above the windshield.
Saw this today and was struck by just how much interior design has evolved. 1961 Imperial Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

As ugly as his first attempt at a Stout trimotor. So awful that Henry Ford managed to have the plant and the airplane destroyed in a mysterious fire.Stout had little or nothing to do with the eventual Ford trimotor...except , maybe the corrugated skin taken from Junkers. Stout never designed anything that was successful.
I highly recommend this video interview with Fabio Fillippini formerly Renault, Pininfarina Design Chief. It's long (1 hr) but definitely worth watching regarding car design as an avocation and a discussion of the process.

One of the topics of today's designer lunch debate was the new Merc. Any opinions from this group? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login And please don't say, they should have done the sketch.
It looks substantially better than the last gen, the R231. I could never warm up to that car...the R230 at least looked good at launch but facelifts made it ugly. I wonder if the reason for soft-top was purely due to space limitations with the rear design or if they wanted that look when top was up. The soft-top looks very out of place and dated in that photo.
DESIGNER CREDITED WITH '69 SHELBY EXTERIOR? I saw that as far as the '67 Chuck McHose got some mention, and his role generated some articles but never heard mention of who fathered the '69-'70 Shelby design? Maybe there's an article somewhere? I know auto makers blow hot and cold on giving credit to designers but I see Ford is crediting the designer of the 2021 Shelby (Chris Stevens) so they're doing it now on occasion
(The sketch looks like a Mazda sketch ) In my opinion, and obviously Mercedes does not agree with me, the SL, as the halo car, should be designed as a convertible, not a coupe with the roof cut off. This does not look like top of the line. It could just as easily be a C class. The rear is fat and stubby. It doesn't really look like a Porsche (to me) but suffers the same way that a 911 does from being a fastback with the roof cut off.
Not too bad, if not too Mercedes (though grille probably sells it?). Retractable pagoda might flatten some curves?!
Sadly, the 2022 Audi A8 was presented today....... Image Unavailable, Please Login ...a formerly elegant & refined design, now entering "overlife", and seriously in need of cosmetic dental work. As an Audi enthusiast, I'm worried what these stylistic gaffe's mean for the rest of the line up....
Audi has been one of my design icons since the '80's 5000. For all that time they, in my opinion, were the ones to look to for great design...........that is till recently. They've come off the proverbial rails it would seem. I lusted for an A7/S7 or an A8L for a long time. Now... Looking at this latest iteration, the photo says it all. Image Unavailable, Please Login
