Very interesting Chevrolet design work history, as usual! For a trip down the rabbit hole check out the history of Pinin Farina special Cadillac models late 1959 - 1961, Cadillac Starlight as one example. The 1 of 99 Pinin Farina 1959 Cadillac Brougham sedan. Also the 1961 Cadillac Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy push car. Missing cars seems to be a recurring theme in Italian showcars...
BMW Design Studios, late 1930's In the late 1930s, BMW is working on a replacement for its 326. The new model, to be launched in 1940, is not (just) a simple reskin. Even though the chassis and the in-line 6 (cylinder engine) are remnants of the previous generation - with some notable evolutions - the new "332" is clad with an aerodynamic 'Ponton' body. And for good reason. Beyond the American "Streamline" trends, the next BMW is principally designed for the new Autobahns, freshly constructed by the Third Reich. Wind tunnel studies are carried out with the help of Wunibald Kamm, who also worked for BMW on the experimental K1 model. In the spring of 1939, the studies are completed. The 332 can enter its build phase and the presses are ordered. At the same time, to pave the way to its promotion, a photographic record is created within the BMW design office. This a precious testimony that not only lifts the veil on the key stages of the project coded 385, but also on the styling team. Under the direction of Wilhelm Meyerhuber, who had joined the company three years earlier (still written as Meierhüber at the time), the stylist Peter Szymanowski and the modeler Karl Schmück are brought onboard. But as you can imagine, the outbreak of WWII on September 1, 1939, changes all the plans. BMW is ordered to redirect all of its production to the war effort and the 332 is de facto redundant. Of the three running prototypes, only one would escape the bombing at the end of the war. Although very damaged, the model was completely restored in 1949 to support the development of the next BMW 501, introduced in 1952 - a model also styled by Peter Szymanowski. Hans Erni (1909–2015) designed this drawing for his friend Paul Jaray. He used this schematic representation of laminar and turbulent flow in several publications. Paul Jaray (1889–1974) was the first and most important pioneer of aerodynamics for automobiles Image Unavailable, Please Login

That's simultaneously making me cringe and go "awww". It's like a cute rescue kitten with missing fur, a dodgy leg, and an eye missing. All the best, Andrew.
Wonder why there are 2 shades of blue? Maybe that was the prototype for the original Structural Blue?

It's a really neat design, although that hood wing is a little jarring to behold despite being as smoothly integrated into the lines as you might hope for. If it's functional, then I can see the point of it, but if not then it seems like it detracts from the overall aesthetic rather than improves upon it. All the best, Andrew.
