Transforming Woron: A 964 Carrera 4 Restoration Journey

Woron - Unveiling the Russian Crow

Dubbed "Woron" (Vo-ron), meaning crow in Russian, the car's nickname evolved into playful variations like "Worończyk." Naming our vehicles is a tradition, and we encouraged Tomek to embark on a rebuilding journey. Our vision was clear - maintain a stock appearance while enhancing the engine and suspension for optimal performance.

Empowering the Engine: More Power and Smart Upgrades
While the engine performed well, we aimed for more power without breaking the budget. Opting for a 3.6 cylinder set, we incorporated smart upgrades, including an RS light flywheel, 'hot wire' MAF sensor conversion, DME chip upgrade, and a Fabspeed full exhaust system. These enhancements elevated the engine's output to around 300hp.

    Elevating Interior Comfort and Style
The beige stock interior with sport seats received subtle upgrades, including a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, Rennline floorboards, a custom gear knob set, and R style lexan windows. An invisible Bluetooth audio system and a stereo delete panel concealed the radio hole, offering a clean and modern touch.

    Tempting Details: Poker-Inspired Surprises
We didn't stop at performance and aesthetics; we added tempting details for a personalized touch. RS air vents, originally functional in 964 RS for brake venting, were made functional in Woron. Poker-inspired surprises included customized gauges with royal flush scaling and a unique fuel bib adorned with cards icons, delighting Tomek, a poker enthusiast.

In the end, Woron's restoration was more than a project; it was an exhilarating journey resulting in a thrilled and satisfied owner. Woron, the Russian crow, is not just a car; it's a masterpiece that embodies the fusion of restoration expertise and personalized detailing.

I'm generally not keen on cars that doing have roofs, but that's a great-looking Morgan. As you say, that's about the last collaboration I would have expected. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    Replica of 'Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6' based on (early 2000s) Mercedes-Benz R230

All body panels of the car were replaced, which resulted in an increase in the front and rear overhang and the front and rear lighting equipment was replaced. Eyewitnesses note the high quality of execution.

Inside the new $1 billion campus that GM hopes will launch it into the future
    Story by Kristin Shaw
    • 3w • 4 min read
How do car designers peer eight to 10 years into the future to create vehicles that not only look good but will sell? In this building, GM creatives have moved into a new house, and the ideas are flowing. Here at the intersection of art, design, engineering, and technology, GM is flexing the vehicles the public already knows are coming, plus many more that very few people have seen. Except for those working in this building, of course.

It’s all part of a $1 billion upgrade to the Technical Center campus, a significant investment for this century-old automaking conglomerate. Already, the 2025 Buick Enclave three-row SUV was uncovered recently with a clear nod to the Buick Wildcat EV concept unveiled in 2022. Sleek and angular with aerodynamic lines that suggest speed, the Wildcat seems to be the audacious kind of model inspiring future ideas and encouraging a second look at what may have been a lackluster brand in the recent past.

    View on Watch[IMG]

The new Digital Design Visualization Center includes a full audio setup with capacity up to 120 decibels–basically, the noise level of a jet plane–and a nearly 56-foot-wide screen with more than 76 million pixels. Virtual tools are incorporated into each studio area to enable real-time, on-demand global design collaboration, and it seems the line between where the computers start and people stop (and vice versa) is fluid.

    3D modeling still reigns

Forty-four high-tech mill sites dot the surface, standing ready to carve giant blocks of clay into the desired shapes before sculptors take over with specialized tools. These are five-axis mills, capable of cutting across three distinct linear axes. At the same time, it rotates on two vertical axes to process five sides in total. Sculptors learn the software to program the mills so the process is hand in glove.

Side by side with the all-clay models are those that are partly cloaked in Di-Noc, a stretchy film used for decades in the automotive industry for wraps and color representation. Massive company 3M acquired Di-Noc in the 1960s and still uses the name. Today, GM staff in the Design West building apply it to clay models to help designers see the reflection of light on the surface as it plays on the body of the car.

There’s more space in the new building for show and tell, and you can bet each of the automakers–Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GM–are checking each other out. There’s a sense of peripheral inspiration over one-upmanship. Even those on the virtual modeling side are nearby under an overhang to manage the influx of light on their computer screens. If the old buildings were siloed and compartmentalized, this is the exact opposite. GM’s world is topsy turvy in the most logical, ambitious ways.

On top of the new building, refreshed technology, and updated machinery, there are about 40 art installations throughout Design West, all created by current and past GM designers, creatives, sculptors, and fabrication shop employees. There is a large collage stretching four yards or more made from fabric swatches of all colors from past and current models. A massive, heavy aluminum piece of wall art was painted with various finishes. Employees host art shows on a regular basis to showcase what the designers can do beyond industrial sketches.

I can’t tell you about everything I saw on that design floor. There’s quite a bit of which I’m sworn to secrecy; at least for now. But if Buick’s Wildcat EV concept is any indication of the daring direction GM is taking into the next decade, it looks like that billion-dollar investment will pay off in spades.

Gotta say, Gerry Ford looks more like Bill Mitchell than Battista Farina in that photo!

But while I'm here, this popped up in my email this morning from Classic & Sports Cars; 26 Fiat concepts that didn't make it. From the somewhat sublime of the Tom Tjaarda 2300S to the ovid oddness of the ItalDesign 'Firepoint'.

    https://www.classicandsportscar.com/gallery/26-fiats-never-made?utm&

Say John, to your knowledge was there anything official going on between GM & Pininfarina at that time? That 2300S looks to have a lot in common with the Gen2 Corvair & there was also the Corvair Testudo (sp?) the year before -

Bill Mitchell and Chuck Jordan had several projects with Pininfarina over the years. Pininfarina submitted several concepts for GM to consider as well. Giugiaro & Bertone did likewise. Many of those never were shown to the public. Mitchell was fond of saying if you're going to steal something you rob a bank, not a gas station, hence is proclivity to 'borrow' from Ferrari, Rolls Royce, et al.

What was the car in the London fog that inspired the Riviera; was it a Rolls-Royce? I say Riviera because originally the model was offered to Cadillac...

Correct. Mr. Mitchell likened the RR crisp edges (crease in the pants) to what he wanted the Rev to look like. Bustleback Seville suffered that same fate.

Perhaps what is far more interesting than Kia / Hyundai design is the actually production and contenting of those designs. With that said, I'm not sure they have a consistent design language as it seems was though they chase a new rabbit every 5 years. They are definitely winning on contenting and interiors, however. Arguably, so much so, they may be bleeding into a completely new demographic.
