Dick Soderberg was my boss. Dick also came from Opel around 1969. He was an incredible talent, designer and artist. He did the body design and graphics for the 908/3. He was also responsible for the body design of the 935 and the graphics of the “Pink Pig”, Psychedelic 917 with a young designer, Fleming. Dick led and was hands on with the exterior design of the 959 and 964. After 964 was 965. Along with Dick, Steve Markert and Roland Sternmann I was also on the 965 team. 965 was in 1985. Of the many proposals, I also did a rear end similar to 993. Looked almost identical to 993 but began 5 years prior. The 964 version of the Turbo was also called 965 but is completely different. “965” was to become the higher volume production version of the 959. The blue rendering was a full size I did with different rear end proposals. Dick’s desk was behind the full size clay with the model airplanes dangling above. I’ll dig out more once I have access to them. I also worked on 959. I consider Dick Soderberg and Tony Lapine two of my greatest mentors and influences in my design career. Any insight into these two models high on the shelf in the background, especially the darker one? Image Unavailable, Please Login
That was Dick’s original scale model for the 935. The white one is the original scale model for the Gruppe B (959) study.

Here’s the scale model for mocking up the graphics for “Pink Pig”. In the B&W photo you can see Dick applying the Psychedelic graphics to the 917LH. You can see Lapine with Huschke von Hanstein, Ferry Porsche with Peter Falk and Horst Marchart talking to Dick. In the last photo at Zuffenhausen is L to R Wolfgang Mobius (designer of the 928), Dick Soderberg, Tony Lapine and Hans Braun (928 interior and creator of the BMW Cockpit dashboard). This is a great site! The magic that once was the Frankfurt and Turin Auto Show! Warning!! It’s a rabbit hole! https://www.motorsportimages.com/photos/?team_id=&race_type_id=202&orientation%5B0%5D=horizontal&orientation%5B1%5D=panoramic&year=1969&p=1
I really like these boxy looking rear fenders... its like the pininfarina fittipaldi. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for pointing that out. Looks like a Corvette C8 without the "fast & furious" rear end! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dig! Two rabbit holes in return ... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/vintage-shots-from-days-gone-by-part-2.1154030/page-5209 https://gtxforums.net/showthread.php?650-pic-twitter-com/page972
LOL! Love how the rear of that "Pace Car" is drooping! Image Unavailable, Please Login Very interesting photos. Wish some of the pictures had captions to learn more.
Rumors of a 4-door mustang to compete with the likes of the Dodge Charger using an ICE engine are circulating again. It should be noted that way back when, Ford at least entertained the idea of a 4-door version. It was proposed to be built on a Falcon chassis, but never came to fruition. Image Unavailable, Please Login Ford has recently released a profile sketch of what a mid-20s Mustang 4-door sedan would look like. And, of course, artist and AI renditions are appearing every day. Enjoy! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ford is clueless. They already debased the Mustang name by hanging it on a slot car SUV. Delorenzo is right, why does Farley still have a job and when does the Ford family decide that one of them needs to head to pasture?

This is a rerun of a runabout concept from sometime in the early 1970s. I'll have to go check old issues of Style Auto to find it.
