    Hi All,

I need some help ( please! ), some friends and I are looking at doing a Coast to Coast ( well LA or Vegas to New York ) drive this September but are struggling to find a decent Car Hire Deal due to the extortinate One Way Drop Off Fee.

The cost of rental in most cases is more than tripled once this single fee is added.

Does anyone have any ideas as to get around this?!

    Thanks in Advance.

    Andy

Well you can buy a beater car then sell it when you get there, or scrap it and get $200.00 a ton. Cheaper than flying if you insist on driving.

Don't you watch Top Gear? Buy a POS for $1000 at point A. Sell it for $1000 when you get to point B.

Some rental companies wont charge obscene drop rates for cities relatively close to them, so you might try switching cars from city to city. So LA to Vegas, switch cars, Vegas to Denver, switch cars, etc etc. Its a complete pain to do it, but at least you'd have the chance to drive a bunch of different cars. Go with National and you can choose your own car.

Any way you can make it a big circle? Most car hires in the U.S. don't charge for milage, so you could see more of the U.S.

zxttfan, thats a pretty good idea - I will have a look at that tonight :)

Normv - the taxi idea would be funny, especially the initial "Where to?" ....... "Vegas please!" ...... "WHAT!?!"

Scotty, unfortunately due to work commitments I cant get any longer than two weeks off otherwise that would have definately been the plan, a huge loop.

I think we may just limit ourselves to sort of middle of the country head north and back West.

Thanks for all your help, advice and suggestions :)

    Andy
