Guys, I "may" be picking up a 1995 993 cab from a friend and I'm just thinking about insurance. If I'm only going to drive the car less than 5,000 miles a year should I shop outside my current insurance company?? No tickets/accidents and my current company wants $1200 for the car. Curious what others do. My friend has been "selling" this car for about 3 years but never pulls the trigger but he seems serious this time. 1995 993 cab, red and tan 22,000 miles, no accidents-really is perfect but needs front rotors and rear tires. I think I can get the car for $33,000. Seems to be a nice price for a car in this condition.

Check out JC Taylor. 800-345-8290 or www.jctaylor.com. They do antique and collector car insurance. As long as you are not using the car as a "daily driver" or on business, and you have another car that is your daily driver, they will give you a collector car rate on it. Unlike some collector car companies, their restrictions are minimal. Check them out. At least worth getting a quote. I use them for all my cars other than my SUV and my daughter's Jetta.

Grundy may also be an option. Hagerty is another...

In essence, $1200 isn't too bad and at agreed value the savings won't be that great vs. your current insurance premium.

We've been talking about this car for a while...hope he finally lets it go.

Thanks Eric. Yeah we've been talking about this car for over a year............... I actually offered him $33K if the car needs brakes/rear tires and $34K if it passes the PPI (once we agree on the price I was going to give you a call on a PPI in Morristown/Parsippany). At $33-34K I'm not stealing it but doing well given the condition and known history (had the 30K done last summer).

Also, sorry about dropping the ball on the watch. To all, Eric does have the best connections on watches, 993, etc. Thanks again for making the call.

I've got Leland West insurance on my 964- I've been using them for a few years now- cheaper than our "normal" insurance, and they insure at an agreed value and calculate the premium on that.
