Im just wondering if the experts on this forum can assist. My car a 400i 1983 is currently running with no problems. It has been doing this for quite a while now. No funny noises from the front, even from a cold start, no ideling problems, doors and windows work, and the brakes dont squeek.

Naturally as a seasoned Ferrari owner I am concerned. What could these symptoms be indicating as a future problem? Do you have any similar experiences and how do you cope.?

    WARNING!
This is a very serious condition. If your car continues to run this way it will cause many miles of smiles, severe thankfulness that it was aquired, and xtreme amounts of excuse making so you'll have a reason to roll it out of the garage and go for a drive instead of going to work.
I feel for you, I have the same problem.
Good luck, check in here often and we'll try to help.

Apart from squealing brakes, I am similarly afflicted. What wonderful machines!

Re: Just in case the 'Yowlzer' fails I have got some spares

I have just checked with Ferrari Classiche and the 'Yowlzer' part in question is twice my weight in gold encrusted with diamonds. However Iv just passed my local Fiat garage and they have a pile of them in the back yard and they will pay me to take them away.

So no worries on the 'Yowlzer' front.

If your wondering which part is the 'Yowlzer' it can be found betwween the part that usually doesnt work on a Saturday morning and the other part that fails at 63.7 miles into the journey just when you start to relax and think nothing is going to go wrong.

    Thanks for your input

Would recommend a preventative engine teardown.

Sorry to hear about this. :(

This is a common side effect of using your F-car regularly.

Well, our car has been running so well, it was SCARY ! Starts first click, idles a steady 1000, no fuss no muss, maybe 1 QT burned per 1500 or 2000 miles (medium to hard running at 80-100 mph freeway), and now...IGNITION problem !! Maybe a semi-conductor that is reacting to some under-hood heat. It is December here in Southeast USA, but unseasonably warm. So after 1 or 2 hours on I-85, followed by a fuel stop, car started to cut out an hour later (just above Charlotte). So we coasted off into a Truck Stop and did a little diagnosis. MagnetiMarelli AVVERTENZA (AEC104G-660) unit was quite cool at front, only warm at rear (mounted to underside of hood on right front). Half hour later, I started it and drove away. Started cutting out (all 12) again just above Winston-Salem. Again, 20 minutes cool down and off we drove. NO problems the entire way home. (Heading North and up in elevation...noticeably cooler ambient). SO, any suggestions? I am inclined to replace with a modern ignition, but I do not find (yet) a 12-cyl aftermarket unit. MSD? Pertronix? Mallory? So far, I don't see anything with a 12 hole distributor. Only 2 X 6cyl. HELP !!!

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

Im no expert but this is what I have done on mine. Replace all relays (and fuses) and coat the pins with Stabilant 22 (see other threads). Ensure that wires that go into plastic clip frames are sound - they tend to burn a liitle and lose their contact. After that I would know its not a bad connection effecting fuel pumps and other ignition areas.

Then proceed with a fault diagnoses of components.

    Hope this helps

I have thought about doing this. But of course the best way will be to disintegrate the entire car into individual atoms (carefully photographing each one and placing them in line on the garage floor).

But the problem in doing this is what to do with the spaces between the atoms (anti-matter and the like).

I have the Ferrari toolkit and a can of WD40 - what else is needed ?-
