My girlfriend's son has an older (96) Saturn SL2. His girlfriend gave him a CD radio. I went on ebay and bought the special face plate thing and stuff to mount this stereo in his car. Took some fabrication but it is in and solid and looks good. His original speakers are old and not so good especially with a new receiver that puts out more than the OEM radio. I have a couple MCM 55-1855 woofer speakers that should be just the right size for the rear shelf. So I plan on installing them there. He is into that bass music so these should give him a reasonable amount of bass and hold up to his receiver. His sister has the same year Saturn. This was her mom's car. Her speakers were gone so I found a set of 4 OEM Saturn speakers on ebay from a newer Saturn. I only installed the 2 rear so I have 2 left yet. I want to use these in his front doors. These look to be much better quality speakers than what is in these older Saturn's.

So my question is this. How can I limit the low frequency to the front speakers? If I can limit the low frequency to the front speakers the rear woofers will give the bass and the fronts will deliver the highs. I do not want to do any thing fancy. All I need to find out is how to easily limit the low frequency to the front speakers so he does not blow them out with heavy bass. I'm not a stereo person but can this be done with a capacitor? Can I buy something cheap and simple to do it? I'm not interested in anything fancy or better equipment to get this done. I want to use these speakers I have and limit the low frequencies to the fronts and maybe limit the high frequencies to the rears. He is just a kid and he will not care. As long as it is loud and has a lot of bass (considering it is just an aftermarket JVC receiver with no sub box or extra amp etc) he will be happy.

    Thanks!

Thats what crossovers are for. They filter out certain frequencies to prevent exactly what you want to prevent.

You should be able to pick them up at any audio shop that sells speakers.

Why are you going to need to filter the bass out of the front speakers? If your running them off the head unit they should be full range speakers and shouldn't need crossovers, unless they are components. Also, you are going to need to cut the highs out of the "woofers" on the rear deck. How big are these woofers? The rear deck isn't usually a good place to put those unless they are infinite baffle types. Otherwise they need to be in a small box whose size is determined by the manufacturer.

Fronts are older but still good OEM Saturn speakers that I think will get trashed if I do not take some of the low frequency out. As long as the rear woofers go boom boom he will be happy. Not looking for perfection.
