I was just reading on s2ki.com about how all these cars are continually being stolen. I've also read the same on other forums about FL being really bad for car thefts. I know there are areas where thefts will be high and some where thefts will be low but overall what are your opinions on it? is it really THAT big of a problem? -

I will be looking at apts/condos/townhouses/even houses in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I will probably start out in an apartment for 6months and search for a nice property to buy.

Also for those of you that have had apartments- have you had multiple cars? where did you park them? - Its my buddy, my gf, and myself. and Im a little concerned about our lot (91- 911 turbo, 01- S2000, 01-S4, and 04 Caddy Ext, and 99 Blazer) but also im concerned about how difficult it will be to park all of these safely.

well....that is why you have insurance.
I would make sure that you have parking for 4 cars in an apartment. I would also recommend to rent for one year at least. You can get some great deals on homes for rent as well. Just ask Andy. He just scored majorly! His kitchen is the size of my house :)

I suppose, One of my biggest fears is walking outside to a missing car, ive walked out to hit and runs before and that was bad enough i couldnt imagine if the whole thing was gone. Ill have to do a search and see if there are any Garages for rent or a Store-It place with large enough bays.

Whats Andys name on the boards. I could use some help searching out apts.

    Thanks Martin

Id rather have my car stolen then have it hit and run...just make sure you have good insurance...rather get a replacement or get reimbursed then trying to repair a car and have car depreciaite

    Hey,

It's not all that bad; just make sure you live in a decent area. If your neighbors have the same level of cars it will make your cars less conspicuous . I live in a gated community with a garage so have no problems what so ever. What areas are you looking to be in? I know the area quite well as I attend school here, and have my real-estate license.

They'll steal a Honda before an exotic. More lucrative for parts. If you look at the top cars stolen in one of those insurance lists, it's usually everyday cars, not exotics.

thats my problem haha. the Honda S2000 and the Audi S4 are my REAL concerns. Those two belong to me personally, the 911 and the blazer are my roommates and the Truck is a shared work vehicle for him and me. Ive just come to the reality, if someone is really going to steal it they'll get it. The most i can do is make it hard for them in hopes of deterring. Im replacing the alarm systems in a few weeks, so ill get something a bit better and like i said just up the insurance on it. Im really holding out for a place with a garage though.

I appreciate the input from everyone.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sometimes if you think about it , you'll attract it, so don't.

I've lived in South Fl for 30 years and I would agree with Martin, get a house! Craigslist has a bunch of them for great lease rates... Neighborhood is important and lastly, most thefts/vandalism will occur when you are out and about, like when you go to the movies or park your car to go to dinner... That's why you have insurance dude... you get older and start caring less about these things.. When I was 23-24, I wouldn't enjoy the movies because I was thinking of the car...

As a owner of a S2000 i tell you, i used to be paranoid even with alarm and garage still, i agree about how you neighbohood is and what kind of car you neighbors drive, one thing though, many S2000 owners live in apartments and they have no garage, that In my opinion is the problem number 1.

The s2000 recaro seats (3K each @ the dealer) are hot for "ricers" and others ... people buy them for 1K out of ebay, is a lucrative "business" for those who stole.

If you can @ least put the S on the garage i think you're fine, and yes, FULL insurance is a must, personally out of CD's i don't have anything of value unlike some people that got their S's stolen + Laptops or wallets etc etc. that also helps somehow, but yes every week on S2ki South florida a person gets their car raped =(

Unfortunately with Florida's high growth rate, no matter where you live it can happen to you. My F150 Harley truck was stolen out of my driveway overnight, and I thought I lived in a good area (Lake Mary).

haha thats what i was reading before i posted the original post. Im in a pretty good position to almost buy the kind of house i want, so i just need a little more time to get there, but i do plan on buying asap. I keep literally nothing in my cars, i dont like things flying around or rolling on the floor, so absolutely nothing is left in the car. I know theres "seat locks" i could buy for the seats and such but really i wouldnt want them after they were tainted.

to be honest i really havent though much more about it since that day, been busy with finishing start-up on a small business plan i had, and working Pt. - House first, then the Fcar ! (hopefully)
