    I went to start my car this morning and I first notice something was odd when I stuck my key in the ignition. Instead of hearing the normal warning tone, I heard a short tone first, then the normal tone (beforeStart.mp3). After that the, I waited for the "Check OK" light as usual. Then when I turn the key, the engine turns over, but then dies immediately. I have tried this a couple times, one time it actually rough idled for about 5 seconds then died. After the engine stalls the warning tone sounds different than I recall (afterStall.mp3). I'm sure these tones mean something to someone.

    I noticed F1 transmission light comes on when it stalls. I think it is related. So I then tried to shift the car while it was off and sure enough It won't go into any gear. The pump will prime when the door opens though and the display says it is in Neutral.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks,

    -Jim

    After cycling the Master power switch on and off. I tried to restart. Same results, it did not start.

    I pulled a code from the OBDII scanner
    P1163 DV-E Failure: Spring Check (Bank 2) Return Spring defect (max)

    I then cleared the codes and tried again. This time it threw 4 codes:
    P1586 Engine Off'-Request from Electronic Clutch ECU
    P1587 Engine Off'-Request from Electronic Clutch ECU (Bank 2)
    P1571 Immobilizer Active (sig) Check the wiring
    P1163 DV-E Failure: Spring Check (Bank 2) Return Spring defect (max)

    I wish this thing would start so I could take it into the shop, but I may have to have it towed.

    I'm not sure what the DV-E message means. All I could find was the following:
    Return Spring defect (max)
    1 reset DV-E adaptation value
    2 key off and on again, engine off
    3 read learning step counter. Has to be 9 and
    b_lrnfg»l. If no;
    -check throttle position: Low valoel.l-2.8%-
    <»Acc.pedaM>% High value 99-l02%-
    »Ace.pedal>=IO0 • check the wiring,
    potentiometer
    - key on, engine off, output signal; 0.33-4.42 --
    »AccpedaH)V. 1.8M.95-»Accpedal=100Vo -
    battery voltage >9V
    -Tmot Tans >5°C -AecpedaK

    I'm going to take it in, but that won't be until later this week at the earliest. Any thoughts in the interim would be helpful.

    I'm curious as to what happened as it was running fine last week and now it won't start. If this would have happened when I was driving would the car have just died. Kinda makes you feel like you could be stranded and helpless at anytime.

    I can clear the codes and if I turn the key on to the accessory position without trying to start, and reread the codes it will have the code: P1163 DV-E Failure: Spring Check (Bank 2) Return Spring defect (max).
