I went to pick up my car and I noticed it is running Real Rich.
As a matter of fact it really fumes up with black smoke and really stinks up your clothes.
This clears up right away when it is off the idle circuit. I had the mechanic drive the car and I noticed it cleared up as he was pulling away.

But the car is just idling it is quite rich with black smoke.

Does this sound like the floats are set too high? The carbs were not rebuilt ( maybe that was my mistake)

Second. It has a new clutch but the car shudders real bad when starting from a dead stop.
It shift smoothly when driving but it is a real pain.

    Any idea?

    Good day,

If you car sat for some time and the carbs were not removed of fuel, you could have fuel sediment inside the various orifices/passages. I know when I let my carb 512 sit (over a Winter), I have to disassemble the carbs and clean everything out. I found that the modern fuel leaves a greenish residue when the fuel evaporates over time.

Personally, before I would go out and start adjusting float levels, etc I would remove, clean, and inspect the carbs as there could be other issues at play here. Thankfully carb removal on a BB is rather painless and quick.

As for your clutch issue, do a search in the Boxer section as I seem to remember a few others having this issue.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Thanks, I have had the carbs sent out for a rebuild.

The clutch is going to replaced with a factory unit instead.
