Thought I would revive this for you carb guys. Anyone get one of these since made available? Carburettor syncronizing "tool". https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eferrarichat%2Ecom%2Fforum%2Fshowthread%2Ephp%3Ft%3D349291&share_tid=349291&share_fid=9080&share_type=t Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm still using a pair of Motion Pro, 4-bank, motorcycle mercury manometers. No power and no calibration required. They are very sensitive and very accurate. But, they do not store data, so not sync history if that is important to you. You could of course photograph the column heights. Damping issues: Some of these devices are very sensitive, including electronic, fluidic, and mechanical types. One simple way to dampen the signals is the use of inline vacuum/pressure restrictiors. These are simply plugs with a small orifice inserted in the signal tube. Too much fluctuation, add another flow restrictor or go with a smaller orifice in the plug. There is simply no need to get complicated and dampen electronically, unless you just want to. Bill
If one can't find a mercury manometer system, the Carbtune II looks like a very good alternative. This system uses a stainless column, floating in a precision, tapered bore, glass tube, for each cylinder. When all columns float at the same height, you are balanced. Please see: http://www.carbtune.co.uk/c.com/carbdtls.html An 8-cyinder engine should use two carbtune II's, one fore each bank, and hung together for comparison purposes. The beauty of this system, there is no toxic mercury to deal with and it can be laid down for storage. Bill
For my Lotus I use one of the inexpensive units avaliable on Ebay which have 4 round gauges. It works really well. Each tube has an adjustable damper so you can tweak to even out the cylinder pulses as required.
