Hi I was investigating cf mirrors for 348 and they offered to me to produce full body kit - hood, bumpers, doors of autoclaved CF , price tag 7k USD I assume it worth to do it , taking into consideration weight of doors etc.. Just wonder if someone did it before, is there any implications (safety , technical etc.) thank you A
bumpers I think may be worth it. Hood, I dont know. Ive got a glass one and it feels so light to begin with I dont think a carbon one will be that much lighter. Doors, saftey comes to mind here. I guess what do you mean by doors does it include the saftely bars inside them. I think Dash, bumpers and other interior stuff would be worth it.
+1 on bumpers and front fenders.....CF hood done properly almosy 1/2 weight of FG......doors for street I would leave alone and only do scoop and mirrors in CF......interior dash, door panels, and center console yes and no....good weight savings but not enough data for crash safety, especially dash area. Ask them if it is wet or dry layup...big difference....dry is lighter and approx. 2-3 times stronger than wet....Chris at Valence can give better data. Fitment needs to be spot on.
If they autoclave I'm guessing they are using pre-preg... ask them how much for the bumpers and side grates...
Do it! Especially since they are going to use a autoclave, which means it will be dry carbon, not the wet carbon fiber most after marketers sell. If you do the doors be sure to remove the guts and have them do the inner mounting part so you can put the glass back in. However the glass is the heaviest part of the door. But I would still do the doors any way, plus the door intakes . You can also have them do the front fenders and the rear engine cover. Oh yeah, and have them do the head light buckets too. The best thing about the whole deal is that you would still have all of your original stuff. So if you wanted to get it back to all original you could. If I had the opportunity and for $7k US, to do the WHOLE car in autoclave, I'd be all over it.
$7k USD for the whole body kit in dry CF implies that they can make a profit selling CF front bumpers at $1,200! They could sell all that they could make at that price, plus rear bumpers. The racers would want more, but just about every non Competitizione Ferrari 348 owner would go for $1,200 carbon fiber bumpers.
Finally, they took my car , promised to get back in 3weeks after they produce molds. + 2 weeks produce parts and fit , will run Porsche those days ,sorry. Front bumper, front bumper lip, doors (in and ext sides) , front fenders, door vents, rear bumper all for 6k. They refused to do rear engine cover due to complexity. All except internal door parts will be autoclaved. Also seen Porsche 911/930 front and rear CF fenders - weight approx 400-500gr each and GTR seat 3,5 kg. Wet layup and covering with CF costs twice more due to manhours Will post all photos here)) Lets keep fingers crossed PS paint ideas welcomed, current color rossocorsa
They're probably doing it cheap because they're using your car as the basis for the production molds. They probably wont be selling bumpers for $1200
Will as to weight over the weekend. I really doubt about selling - there are 8-10 348 and 355 in the town)

You may not be so happy when you see the freight bill and customs charges.....maybe someone can check on this and post.
If possible, can you post pictures of the molds and parts being made? Freight charges from Russia may rival the cost of all the components. Wonder if enough US 348/355 guys would be interested in similar parts.
Are the OEM fenders really that heavy? Never taken them off. However, I've removed the bumpers on the 355, and I could barely lift them myself! All the stuff mounted inside really weighs a lot. Easy way to shave 40+ lbs off the car, off the very ends which would make a difference.
Well touche' You wouldn't lean towards composites because that is your line of business/work, now would it ?
