How good is carbon fibre as a heat shield?

I bought two replacement shields in CF for my 355....protects the drive shaft boots from exhaust heat....oem are aluminium with wadding that went flakey.

the CF itself doesn't have trouble with heat, it's the resins that bond it together, it's like any other resin ( plastic ) structure, don't know the heat ranges of the possible resins...
most resins that are common will go up in flame or melt when exposed to heat from a torch ( as in flame not flashlight as in UK )... what is the heat range that the shields protect... also appears that the OEM aluminum has some sort of insulation to keep heat passing through the shields... I would think it the CF shields would hold heat and eventually radiate it to the shaft boots not having any insulation properties... CF structures are buzz words and gateway to rip offs due to high price ( for proper ones ), just because it advertised as CF is it properly used in that particular application...

SS with some thin modern heat shielding material bonded to it would work very well.

I have that same problem on one of my cars.
Properly venting the CV boots helps too.

Which is why the wonderful McLaren F1 has so much of that real and expensive gold reflector shielding.
