    Just an FYI on carfax.

I was going to purchase a 993 Turbo, clean, spotless carfax....

then the PPi (independant) turned up that the car was in a major accident.

After a few calls to some people, I found out the dollar amount for the repair of the car was
nearly the value of the vehicle.
I was also shown proof of the repair with the documentation...

Moral of the story once again,

Carfax is sometimes good to track where the car has been, but what its been thru....

btw: this is the 3rd car (different makes) that showed a clean carfax and was in a major accident.

    Be careful out there everybody......

Have the car you are looking inspected by a pro

A carfax will never replace a PPI by a competent mechanic/ tech.

In fact most people get an overwhelming sense that the carfax some how is reassuring. I can show you a blank x-ray... it doesn't mean your foot isn't broken.

looking at "forms" not containing missing info based on people not reporting their accidents is a piss poor way of checking for damage, a total waste of time.

If you want to know who owned the car before you, go to the dealer talk with the current owner, run the VIN.

im pretty sure they have a disclaimer that CarFax isnt always accurate, because it's based on reports from dealers/DMV/county/state etc..that isnt always reported to carfax.
