Any insight on what happened to this car?
Maybe it's 142K miles? I think the odometer must have rolled over and that's what led to the inconsistent reading. As for the accident - that would be of concern. Certainly the car would have to be inspected to be sure that the repairs were done well and to determine if the frame was damaged at all. $36K seems pretty spendy for a 146K mile car. I would be a bit concerned about mileage, would want a compression and leak down test performed, suspension (bushings, shocks) inspected, etc. I wonder what the dealership would do if you presented the Carfax to them and told them they have a 146K miles 328? Bob
Another questionable Florida car. Not good. Probably a rental car that's been through the ringer. Usally those have issues with accidents and inaccurate odometer readings before they are brought up north for private sale. I'd avoid this car and keep looking for something else.
Its on you, not the dealer, to do your homework... Or Caveat Emptor... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caveat_emptor
I agree. Florida apparently doesn't issue salvage title, so you don't know how much damage was done. And the odometer appears to be a crapshoot. I can think of better ways to spend $37K. Sport Auto has a beautiful '88 with 17K miles on it, asking $50K. It's a desirable color, documented would probably save you a lot of heartache.
This car is nicer with 74000 and I dig the Black on black look. I would offer 33k for this car and make it MY Ferrari Driver.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170124112312&rd=1&rd=1
You already know the answer thats why you're asking here in the hopes that someone will tell you not to worry and change the answer. After reviewing the above, would I buy it? NOPE.
Nice find Jay. What sites do you frequent? For me it's Cars.com, Autotrader, Ebay, then FerrariAds (I'd go there more if I was able to narrow my search better).
You got me Dave, did I just 'bust a newb' on you guys? Sorry. Hopefully I'll become a lot more acquainted with this board.
Don't be sorry. On occasion I'll ask questions here just so someone else will conifrm what I already knew.
A taupe/mocha '86 for $37K? I wouldn't have made it past those figures before I turned the page. If you buy this as your first Ferrari, it will be your last for one of two reasons: 1. No one will ever buy this car from you. 2. You will be so mad at the marque after your inevitably horrible experience that you will never want another.
True, if this car was a pristine, time capsule with 15K miles on it it would still be sale-proof in that color.
I called on saturaday and talked to a salesman there named harvey ford about the taupe color 328, he says it will need about 2k in minor repairs, lights..oil flushes, and etc.........., but what bothered me is he has several years of reciepts and not showing a belt or major service done but the seats have been redyed, he never said anything that was menitioned on the carfax that you showed which I belive when its time for me to buy a carfax will be in my hand when I purchase a car, oh also he says hes firm on the price
i agree their are better 328s with less of a questionable history that you should consider. so you buy it for $36-37 but then have to spend, not $2000, but closer to $5-7K to get it "up-to-date". now you're in the low-mid 40's. i'd just go ahead and spend that on a car that has everything done and possibly a better color. but if the color suits you, then consider the car and bargain hard BTW, the wheels are great looking. normally i think all aftermarket or different MY wheels just don't fit on the 328 but those look great. anyone know which ones they are?
Maybe if they threw this one from their inventory for free.... http://www.lamborghiniohio.com/used_vehicle_details.htm?vehicleId=82a129d44046381e0080f252035c2545 ...but those are nice wheels
Last spring there was an 86 same color 12,000 miles in New York. Buy it now was 42,000 I offered 33k No sale...
I wonder how they'd explain away the Carfax report... "Vehicle Comments All of our vehicles are thoroughly inspected and receive a 36-point Highline inspection from our expert technicians! In addition, each vehicle offered has a CARFAX data sheet provided."
very good point, I've should said that If I was still interested but not know, so the search shill go on,
