The side sills are higher than the F1, but there are no tunnels next to the driver's seat to lift your legs over when getting in an out. That should help.
Yes, pretty high up, with padding around the base. I expect that this will take some experimentation in the prototype to find the best compromise.
Well before the McLaren F1, there were a couple other special cars with a central driving position. The 1966-Ferrari-365-P-Berlinetta-Speciale(Top) and Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 Aerospider--from 1934!! Just subscribed to this thread. Almost missed this project. Serves me right to be away for so long. This is just awesome. Something that I've long thought about but have only gone as far as modifying an existing car. Can't wait to see it all come together. All the best. Manny
In the zone doodling various ideas--designing a louvered aluminum engine cover for Caden. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Design work-in-progress on some changes/refinements to Caden's hind quarters. Of note is a split-wing layout and louvered cover leading into a single exhaust tip. The Caden prototype will use an F3000 race car 2-into-one exhaust. Gives me goosebumps imagining the exterior surfaces in brushed aluminum! To that end, the mechanical portion of the chassis build is on the home stretch--Roll hoops going in, components being mounted. Once we have it here in Ohio we'll be able to continue developing the body. Very excited about that! More to come on that as well as building prototype parts for the interior. Looking good. Everything is nice and rounded except for the sharp corners as you go from the inside of the two wing pieces into the back lines. Maybe round those too?
Hey Zack! Thanks and yeah you are looking at a work-in progress image. The 2 inner wing edges will get a chamfer along them and the corners will get radiused Not too much radius though because I dig the contrast between the strong edges and the fluid surfaces.
The tail end of a Lola B02/50 F3000 car. The ‪‎Project Caden‬ prototype will be using the 2-into-1 exhaust setup from this car, merged with the S85 BMW V10. Should be a screamer! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are contained within an enclosure that is nicely cohesive with the rest of the body styling details. I don't think they appear out of place. Do you?
Wow! I too just found this thread; Its taken me two days (!) to go thru the whole thing. Again, wow, just wow! A truly staggering piece of art/engineering! I too am a huge fan of the 'open' tail of the short tail 917 - Always gives me goose bumps! Loving the whole project, and many thanks for posting both your 'thought processes', patient answers to questions as well as all the progress pix etc. Truly one of the best threads I've ever read here. Thanks again, Cheers, Ian
It's an outstanding project. I really like the look of the 3-seater central driving position interior proposals, following in the McLaren F1's interior footsteps is a brave and excellent idea. Absolutely fantastic! All the best, Andrew.
Really encouraging and exciting to hear about how the project is connecting with you!! So cool to hear how much you are enjoying the process. Thanks for joining in Ian!
