Thanks Rob !!! I can't get that image out of my mind!!!
Sunday we went out and ran the Bar B Que run. There are some very interesting roads! A couple of items for your consideration. There are three or so tricky road changes so if you plan to attend you should have a sharp eyed navigator who can read a map and is fluent in English. It will be very easy to get lost on this one! I originally said I thought we had room for about 20 cars and we will not have that much room, probably more like 10 to 12 cars. The place only seats 16 people inside and about 18 on the outside under the awning. So 20 to 24 people will be about the maximum. This place is pretty popular so that makes the seating a bit more problematic. We need to get there pretty close to when it opens which is 11:00 AM. They sell their food until it is gone and then they close. I will have additional information after next Saturday when we do the final run and make the final arrangements. Yesterday the run took 1:45 to complete, but that will be shortened. The length now is 73 miles but that will be trimmed a bit this Saturday. The following people have shown interest; John S +1 Wade S Glen K Derrick B Charles C Don & Carolyn W. Rincon James W. If you are planning to bring a guest please make a post concerning that fact Here are a few pictures as usual; Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
An updated list; John S +1 Wade S Glen K Derrick B Charles C Don & Carolyn W. Rincon James W. & Mai Shawn & Alicia Oh by the way we will be starting from a location near I-20 and Cooper in deep south Arlington. This allows us to get out of the "Metromess" (Tillman) faster. So for those of you coming from N. Dallas your travel time to this location is about 45 minutes. Depending upon the time it takes to do the run this coming Saturday we will probably shut doors at 9:30 or 9:45 at the latest.
Yesterday Carolyn and I went out to perfect the route and talk to the BBQ folks. The route is 71 miles long and it took us 1:30 min to do it at the speed limit. This may be one of the most rural routes we have done as the scenery is very lush and the animal/reptile life is abundant. We have seen deer, some goats, the obligatory armadillo, skunks, Turtles, buzzards and one of the biggest snakes I have seen in a while! The roads are in excellent shape with almost no drought effect and are very smooth. When we ran the route yesterday at the appointed time there was almost zero traffic. So hopefully next Saturday we will be able to experience the same . We will need to leave pretty close to 9:30 as this place can fill up pretty quickly. If you want to have a beer with your BBQ then you will need to bring some. This is old style service, you go to a window place your order, then pick up your utensils. They have bowls of jalapenos, onions and pickles from which you can pick additional fixins. The tables have BBQ sauce both sweet and regular, assorted condiments and a roll of paper towels for napkins. This is not the Ritz but it sure is good! They do accept credit cards. Here are a few more pictures of the roads that you will traveling and the final is their signature sandwich. The black tray that the sandwich is in is 4" deep! Here is an updated list John S +1 Chris W. 3 cars Derrick B Charles C Don & Carolyn W. Rincon James W. & Mai Will H. Jesus P. There are 11 cars as it stands. If I can get the M inspected we will have 12. We do have room for a couple of additional cars. The weather prediction for this Saturday is perfect, so there is no excuse not to exercise your vehicle and your taste buds. If there is no additional interest by Thursday evening then I will print maps from the above list. Remember the heat of July and August are just around the corner, so this may be the last nice weekend for a while.
Nicolla,we would love to have you on the run. E-mail me tonight and let's see what your schedule looks like. There are a couple of people that are going to try to squeeze the run in. So probably won't know the full number until tomorrow morning.
I know a few of the members from the breakfast want to go. (Including myself). But I don't think we can make it over there for the launch time.
If you leave the corner Bakery by 9:00 AM you will be able to make it to the start location, if you want to do the run. BUT I need to know how many cars! We will print maps tomorrow afternoon, so I need to know pretty early so I can send out the start location to the participants and we can get the maps printed. I don't need anymore scrap paper!
Start location was sent to everyone this morning. If you didn't get one and you were on the list call me 469.235.5639
Maps printed, tire pressures checked, tanks topped off, spritzers loaded, lets go have some fun with cars, people, good roads and some good ol Texas Bar-B-Q this morning!
Excellent run, Don - enjoyed it immensely. Great fun running behind a 512M, an F12, a GTR, and others with my old slow Aston Martin.
Who might have been out at this in a red (what else is there?) Testarossa....one passed me while weaving in & out of traffic on I-75 Central heading north...then going east on I-90 Bush Turnpike around 8pm tonight? Great looking car!
Don and Carolyn, wish we could have joined you. Had to finalize car storage issues yesterday. Met up with a couple participants last night and they couldn't say enough good things about the run, the fun, the people and the great BBQ. Congrats on another successful venture. Storage issued solved! Hopefully we can make the next one.
Thanks again Don and Carolyn for planning this event. Y'all really know where the best spots are for these events. I had a blast, here's a few photos from yesterday.
