When I bought my 88 328 a year ago (at auction), the carpets were missing in both the driver and passenger footwells. However, there were after market carpet mats on both sides, so it wasn't a big deal. Until now, that is.
I've got my car registered for judging at Concourso and the only major defect in the entire car is the missing carpets.
So, I thought, I'll just go on the internet and buy factory replacements. Ha. The issue is color. I would call it brown, tan or camel. If asked, I would describe my car as having the traditional red/tan.
After doing some research, I found some references to what I thought was my brown/tan/camel, calling it "castoro", which apparently means "brown bean" in Italian (something to remember if you're going to Italy soon). Then one of the parts venders said it was "castoro beaver", but then described it as "beige". My carpets are not beige. They're brown. Maybe even camel, but not beige.
Now I get the bright idea to call Ferrari "Classicke" or whatever in N.J. After getting bounced around a bit, I stumbled on the right person. My luck is improving, except the nice lady insisted that if I wanted build info from the factory, it would cost me a minimum of $250. But at least she wrote down my VIN. At this point, I was desperate, but not yet $250 desperate. So I thanked her and turned back to the work on my desk, which had been dutifully ignored while I was on this hunt.
The next day, the phone rings and it's the nice lady from Ferrari. The color of your carpet is "castoro maxistar N. 172". No s**t. Leave it to the Italians to come up with that as a name for brown/tan/camel. But she was nice enough to have called the factory (in Italy!) and got the info I so desperately need.
So, any idea where I can find the right carpet in casoro maxistar N. 172? In a pinch, I would consider castoro maxistar N. 171. I also understand that the heel pads are unobtanium. What have people done about that? I'll try to add apicture, but I don't know if the color will reproduce accurately.
No doubt some of the Concourso judges are active in this forum and will see this post. Thus, my identy must remain a mystery, although they will no doubt seek me out to steal points from me since they now know that my car is the rare red/castoro maxistar N. 172.

I had castoro carpet in my 308. I searched all around for the closest match. Just finding wilton wool at all is tough. Finding a beige/ close match is harder. Finding something exact was impossible. I eventually went with a color I liked that was close enough. It wouldn't ever work though unless you redid the whole thing.

Maybe someone else knows a secret source, but I've never heard of anyone getting the exact same color....maybe you can get some used mats from another car somehow. I have seen repro 308 heel pads on Ebay, are the 328 pads the same?

Thanks. At least I know that I'm not the only one with this problem.
I spoke to Charles at Italian Car Parts today and he is sending me some samples.

If you come close on the color and the texture matches, consider getting someone to match your original carpets and redye the footwell carpeting you're buying. Use them as doormats for a month or two and install them. No one will ever know they're new mats!

    ;)

Good news - Can you let us know what colour you choose as I have the same problem as well - But the tyranny of distance makes it hard to get the samples

Look forward to hearing from you

    Cheers
