No but you'd want to make sure they are using the correct wool and not a synthetic material. How much are we talking about?
http://www.roadworksauto.com/Carpets/ferrari-carpet.htm Materials are Nylon. I think it would depend on whether ones goal is "concours" or "driver". But would agree that it would be best to stay as "original" as possible, to include the rubber heel pads as well.
Prices aren't that bad for what you get. I used a template of another carpet and made my own. Nothing wrong with going with Nylon as long as you aren't paying for wool and getting Nylon.
These are nylon carpets so they are not for the purists. but they look awfully nice from the pictures for a daily driver. But before I purchase a set it sure would great to hear from someone who has purchase and installed them. Is the quality good? Is the fit and finish good? Was installing them difficult or easy and do they look good installed?
Just as a lone counterpoint, the original carpets really are not that high a quality automotive carpet. I decided to upgrade with a first quality, very durable and well done German square weave from GAHH done by a custom installer in the original patterns with the original rubber pads. Not a bargain, but it is functionally the best European carpet at any price in my opinion in appearance and durability
I purchased a roll of carpet and used the old pieces as templates. I also bought leather binding which was an upgrade from OEM-Mondial t. The carpet was the same thickness and quality as original in my Mondial. Make sure that you ask for samples before buying! There's a lot of real thin stuff out there.
We'll see, I ordered a new trunk set from them. I had planned on putting the old stuff back in but it's not in very good shape. I'll post some pics and impressions when I get it.
I am looking forward to hearing your impressions of their product. Is the trunk set you ordered loop or cut pile? Does it come with underlayment? Thanks!
I ordered the loop and I don't think it comes with any padding. I still have all the padding from the old stuff though and it's in good shape. I just recovered the padding with new foil and it looks brand new. Like I said I was planning on putting the old stuff back in, I couldn't see spending $600-$800 for a trunk carpet kit! Since this was only $219 I figured it's worth a try. If it shows up and is garbage I'll just ship it back and be done with it!
The trunk carpet kit showed up today. It looks like the pieces are very close to what was in there. A couple have a little different shape and I'll have to figure out why. It looks pretty nice for the price. It's about the same weight as the old stuff and looks good although it looks like the old may have been cut pile and I ordered loop. I figured the loop would stand up a little better. Here are a few pics, I'm going to try to get it installed tomorrow night and I'll post pics of that in this thread...http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83679 . They seem to be about the same quality as the old ones. It took about two weeks to get them but that's what they advertise. Seems to be a good deal for the price!
Has anyone else tried their carpet set? Juddya, now having seen their trunk set would you use their carpet set for the interior of your car?
I just got some carpet samples (cost 5$) to look at. Some look incredibly cheap and low quality and I would never put it in my car, but others look quite acceptable. If you go that route, be sure to look at actual samples and not just what you see on the website.
I ordered new a new carpet set (cut nylon - medium saddle) for my 1986 328 GTB. I sent them my old set so they had an exact pattern since a GTB is cut slightly different than a GTS. While nylon carpet isn't the original wool, I was hoping it would be good enough for a driver car. I received that set and installed it this weekend. An exact fit and I couldn't be happier with the quality of the materials, color and the fit and finish of the pieces for the price (about $400!!!). If I was doing a concours car obviously I would bite the bullet and buy original wool (about $1,100 through Roadworksauto.com as I recall). But for a driver I couldn't be more pleased. I highly recommend Fred at Roadworksauto.com to other owners. I will post pics when I can. ps: While I did not have them put the Ferrari stallion on my mats (I had them make a set of separate overlay mats from the same carpet material) they sent me a sample of their stallion...outstanding job too and I wish now I had done it!
