This Czech company, Carplastix, just came to my attention. Evidently they are a going concern in the stickies remediation arena for Ferraris and Maseratis. It also seems that they are moving into the reproduction of all those little bits and pieces of plastic trim and interior controls (window switches, HVAC, power seats) that are prone to breakage in our aging exotics. Here is the url for their Ferrari parts catalog: https://www.carplastix.com/pricelist/ferrari/.

I have put in an online order for the three-piece window switches kit and the trunk and fuel door buttons combo for the 612. It was a unique experience, in that the checkout process for my shopping cart went through the usual entries of contact info and shipping address, but without any entry of payment method (PayPal, credit card). They sent me an email to confirm the order, including an invoice, but no request for further communications regarding payment.

My impression is that I have merely submitted a pre-production request, to enter a queue for finalization of the transaction when production is underway. This would be consistent with the Facebook post that brought Carplastix to my attention. The subject of the Facebook thread was broken window switches on the 612. Carplastix chimed in with a post that it will be producing replacement switches, implying that they are not presently doing so.

If you review the online catalog you will agree that this is an exciting prospect, in that the catalog includes so many of these NLA bits, at prices that almost seem reasonable to we battered spouses of elderly Ferraris. So, please do share any personal experiences with this company.

    Here is the Facebook thread:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/695403905369765/permalink/1096172905292861/? Here is the post “You mean the silver bezel which is missing in the photo or window button itself? If you mean window button, we (Carplastix) plan to reproduce them. They will be available in few months.

I have heard stories from a few of our US customers that they never received the product after months and a few who have received astronomical customs fees and bills for the parts. Plenty of US sellers on ebay selling those parts where your protected, unlike a company in the Czech Republic.

I used them to redo 575 sticky bits. I'm based in UK - so outside of EU - but had no problems on import. Product is exemplary and turn round time a matter of days. Communication was also good. But not cheap.

For those following this FChat thread and also the Facebook thread... I snapped these pics of my window switches. Please note that my driver's side switches are the "short" switches and the passenger side switch is the "long" switch. Can any other 612 owners confirm that this is the stock configuration? Two different switch lengths?? Thank you.

That passenger switch is not stock. My passenger switch on my 612 is identical to the driver side, just as your switch is pictured.

Thank you, Paul. I suspected as much. I will have to source the correct switch when that time comes.

    UPDATE:
I just heard from Robert Bohunek, from Carplastix. He says that he has personally seen another 612 that had two different lengths of window switches.

I guess that could be possible. I based my answer solely on my 2008 OTO. Other model years could be different I suppose.

It turns out I completely misunderstood the Carplastix "catalog" pages. Specifically, I overlooked this statement at the top of the 612 page: "Choose parts for refinishing from the list of parts. There's a need to ship your sticky parts to our workshop for the refinishing, we don't sell new parts." In other words, I mistook the extensive list of stickies-prone parts as a catalog of new reproduction parts, not as OE units in a post-remediation condition. My misunderstanding arose from the fact that the previously mentioned Facebook thread was my first awareness of the firm, and that the Carplastix guy who posted to that thread -- Robert Bohuněk -- mentioned only the reproduction of window switches for retail sale. He did not mention stickies repairs.

Also, in the Carplastix 612 catalogue page, there is a listing for an all-new part: the plastic shaft inside the mirror controller. Here is that listing:

Here's an Instagram image of what appears to be Carplastix's production run of this part, together with three different mirror switches which use it. The switch on the left is the 612 and 599 version. Breakage of the thin plastic shaft, that does all the work with this switch, is a "when" not an "if."

When mine broke in my '05 612 I foolishly bought the Ferrari part which includes the backing plate, the headlight switch, and the mirror controller, at a cost of $943 delivered (from Scuderia Car Parts USA). All I actually needed was this plastic part, which at a price of €40 ($43.69) would have saved me $900! Plus, assuming the Ferrari part that I'm currently running is NOS, the plastic shaft might very well be 20 years old, and ready to break at any moment.

Also, in the Facebook thread mentioned by @Chindit, the Carplastix guy Robert Bohuněk reiterates their intention to sell new reproduction window switches: "Guys, we’re planning to produce window switch knobs for your cars in a batch of 1,000 pieces because we frequently repair these switches during our sticky plastic renovations, as they are often broken."

Vis-à-vis US Customs, it is my understanding that duties begin to apply only at $2,500 and up. The duties are indeed substantial. And at least with respect to California, when you exceed $2,500, ICE will inform California's FTB of the transaction, and the FTB will be assessing the applicable sales tax (10% or more) at income tax time.

Please stop spreading these fabricated lies about us, or provide specific projects that supposedly took us months and resulted in clients paying astronomical customs fees. Our work speaks for itself, and we don’t need to badmouth the competition. I understand you're worried about your business, but there's no need to be - we’re not targeting the American market, as you already have StickyRX there, which does quality work. Furthermore, since you’re a sponsor here, we’re not really welcome on FerrariChat anyway.

I have never fabricated any lies. Have no reason to do so, I simply posted what I heard from 4 direct customers or potential customers of yours. I do not look at your business as any competition to me whatsoever, so I could care less what you do. They simply emailed me and asked a bunch of questions about our services because of the issues they had with your services. Three of which are Ferrarichat.com members. I have never said anything about the quality of your work because I have never seen it nor have anyone complained about it, they simply said dealing with customs fees, added on fees, etc that are sent to them a month later from the carrier were extremely expensive and they had no idea they were responsible and felt like someone should of explained that to them. They felt taken advantage of because things were not explained to them. Maybe you should explain to your overseas customers in detail there may be additional fees as we do. We have huge accounts overseas such as Barkaways Ferrari and many others and we have never had any issues. Have a good day

Alright, if what you're saying isn’t a lie, then please tell me exactly who hasn’t received their goods from us or had to wait for several months. I can answer that for you - there is no such person. So what you wrote is a complete lie. It's really inappropriate of you to throw dirt on us like that. We don’t have to be friends, but we should show mutual respect.

Regarding customs fees - of course goods can be subject to import duties in the US, but they are nowhere near the astronomical amounts you mentioned. More importantly, this is completely out of our control and absolutely normal when purchasing anything from abroad.

Please stop encouraging distrust among your fellow countrymen and spreading these false claims. I’m not sure who on eBay you plan to buy the same products from, but let me inform you that our product range includes many parts that no one else in the world offers and that are no longer available from Ferrari. For example, the R button for the Challenge Stradale, window control buttons for the 612, chrome dash vent rings for the Ferrari 550, 456, and 575, window switch bezels for the 355 - including right-hand drive versions, many rare parts for Maserati, and so on.

By the way, we are also on eBay, for those who would rather support eBay by paying their commission. Everyone can make up their own mind, but do you really think that if our business worked the way you describe, over 50 official Ferrari service centers and dozens of world-renowned independent workshops would continue working with us long-term? Or that we’d have such consistently positive reviews everywhere?

Let me attach a recent review from one of our very "unsatisfied" US customers.

I just don't see the need to send parts all the way to Europe when there are people here that do a great job with this.

Maybe because FChat has international users also, including in Europe ;). For some of them, it could be easier to send parts inside Europe, especially during this period.
I’ve ordered 3 window switches + 1 mirror switch, and received them quickly (from CZ to France). Perfect communication with Lukas and Robert.
1 window switch has been mounted and work perfectly. For the mirror switch, I discovered later that the broken part was the round button itself and not the transparent switch. Then I have changed all the switch for a Portofino mirror switch found on eBay. Not exactly the same design and color (titanium color instead of aluminium) but do the job.

Yes I agree, but the original post was from the U.S. which makes no sense sending parts around the world.

customs above $800. Half or less than the EU Vat.

Legally, the state sales tax applies when you buy stuff in other US states also. You're supposed to report the purchase :)
