    Hey Guys

I saw a thread on this from a while back saying that it was not possible to retrofit new to old...

But looking at the new carplay unit in the FF, it seems like a direct replacement of the current unit. At most there is a different bracket holding the new piece, and any wires going into the glove box should be easy to pass through.

Has anyone seen the unit out of the car or seen a technical layout of the parts.

There is no car data coming from or two the screen, so I doubt it requires any updates on the car side.

I have set my tech friends on it, but I was hoping someone already had an answer.

    Thanks
    F

Have not heard anything on my side but I guess it just takes someone to try and buy the unit - then get it installed.

I believe that in a factory installed setup the steering wheel has a dedicated button (for Siri activation?). If true, that would make it more difficult to retrofit a full-blown CarPlay setup in a 2012 FF. Not sure as I haven't read anything clear. Of course, would be terrific if a retrofit were possible.

The current wheel has a VR button on the left side/back of wheel, which I assume could be used to trigger Siri. can't recall if there was a dedicated new button, might have to look at

As for the head unit, a friend who is a tech is just back from factory training. His sense was 1) the head unit has different dimensions, so retrofitting it would require a "heavily customized" piece of work to the dash, trim and behind it (brackets, et al) 2) he said the actual head unit was likely going to be insanely priced as a replacement part and 3) he had no views yet as to what more aggregate software or firmware changes are in place in the car - i.e. the head unit ties into several other car systems so there are likely a set of additional software gremlins that would need to be found, diagnosed and fixed to get it all to work as intended

If you must have it, I guess you can pay $$ to have a capable custom shop try and do it. Question is going to be cost and aggravation.

We have a '13 FF, we're going to survive with our iPhones and iPads until we trade up...

I just took delivery of my first FF. Late 2013 (2014 MY)

Has anybody had any luck with the retrofit of Carplay system? I have come from Bentley and Porsche for the past 10 years and the line system is a real shocker!

Apart from some battery issues which are being looked at, I am over the moon with the car though.

I ask 2 US F dealers and one in UK and they said NO!

Ferrari should offer a retrofit kit for pre 2015 models, every body will change the Chrysler radio is a shame!!!
