Even if there were 200 racing F40's, that would still put them at more than the C-GT. Were there that many racing F-40's?

Could they have possibly meant Supercars? Though a 430 is definitely high-performance, compared to what I drive, but it is not a Supercar.

Its so successful that according to a recent press release I saw quoted somewhere they are havin to terminate production early - no doubt eventually claiming to have produced one more than the F40's production run to ensure its iconic status - well I'm sorry I don't care how competent it is in twenty years time an F40 will still be massively more desirable & iconic

Porsche always talks in a low key way. They just delivered 1111 and are still producing for a few more months. I am sure they have not lost their ability to count.

"most successful high-performance sports car "

That is so open ended, could mean anything, but in those words is a lie.

I’m pretty sure the corvette is the most successful high performance car, over 50 years running and hundreds of thousands of units produced. If one were to say its not “high performance” then one would be retarded. If they meant super car, and by super car you are meaning performance, the new z06 will likely out sell all other 200mph cars as well, and they should have just said super car. Not trying to be a vette cheerleader, just making a point. If it said most successful exotic, hand built, super car, or any other descriptor, maybe it would make more sense. Likely not a good “literal” translation from German. Original text anywhere?

Hey, "successful" could mean just about anything. It's what the advertising/PR world calls a weasel word -- sounds definitive, but if you really scrutinize it the word is very imprecise. Equally imprecise are the words "supercar," "sports car," and "high performance." So, put it all together and you basically have a bunch of PR gook that doesn't carry any real substance.

But hey, who cares. Carrera GT still kicks ass and the automotive world is still better for Porsche having built it.

They have to define success. Currently the C4/C5 Corvette is winning at LeMans & ALMS, Not the Porsche

Carrera GT is without a doubt the best looking car I've ever seen. Maybe the claim is inaccurate but it's still a great car, definitely not a failure.

That would be C5/C6 vette. I don't think the C4s have been on the track in quite some time. And yes, definately Porsche PR mumbo jumbo.

More mechanical than electronic - the last of its kind? The F40 of Porsches. Wouldn't be suprised if it becomes an icon of its era some time down the road - when they'll lament that new ones were once knocking around under MSRP.

Creative marketing and PR people have made most rankings completely irrelevant. "The #1 Family Comedy of the Season" is an example of this BS.

Maybe they mean "The Most Successful Naturally Aspirated 600-hp Sports Car With A Wooden Shifter Starting With The Letter P."
