Considering a trade of my 13 458 Spider for a CGT. First, what are your thoughts on the tangible decision as well as the value difference?

If you can handle the funky styling of the CGT then go for it. I don't know what spiders are going for now but I would guess its $15k over sticker. That money is way better in a CGT which has plateau'd around $320k or so. Performance-wise, it's a great car and one of the last cars with no assistance.

 

As long as you have spoken to folks about the clutch and I believe not many drivers aids with all that power then why not. I would say red, yellow, or black. And open up the exhaust on what is already the best sounding street car;

guys, thanks for the notes. When driving my "fun" cars, I truly like to be exhilarated. The 458 does that and, without driver aids, I can imagine the CGT is even more visceral. I have heard alot about the clutch but I heard the same thing about the manual on the 599 and I think alot of it is people spreading word without first hand (or foot) knowledge. I have owned a ton of cars and this one has always been a bucket list for me so the search begins!

If you really want a drivers car then this is a smart decison to make. The Porsche is near the bottom of the depreciation curve and should start going up in the next few years. That just won't happen with a 458 for decades. NA V10 6 speed built to compleate with the Enzo. Just over 1200 built. How many 458's will there be when they end production? The removable hard top is a bonus

 

I have logged just over 6,000 miles in my cgt - every one of them exhilarating and visceral. Truly the last of its breed of no nannies and a proper manual gearbox. It's an extremely rewarding car to drive and, while I'm biased, I would highly recommend going for it.

Your comment about people spreading the word without firsthand knowledge is SPOT ON. I've also driven a manual gearbox 599 and if you are at all an kind of a competent driver, the cgt clutch is no issue. Just let the auto throttle get you rolling and off you go.

Yep! The ECM maintains engine speed when letting out clutch so you do NOT apply throttle until fully released. Do not forget it has a tiny 6" ceramic racing clutch....like a race car. My RSR has one the same size. IMHO, biased of course, greatest supercar ever made.

 

That last video of the red CGT is my car. Never seen the video before. The CGT is in the league of it's own as far as the noise it makes, but it's great to hear it when you're out of the car. The car IMO sounds so much better with it's stock exhaust over strait pipes.

I think getting a CGT is a great choice. You can pick some up around the 315-325 mark with "higher mileage" (for these cars 6k seems to be the point when you see the value really drop) or get a more collectible, lower mileage, rare paint color car that will most likely hold its value in the long run. My dad picked up his car (Guards red 4,500 miles) for 335k about two years ago, hope this helps you out. Out of all the cars I've driven the CGT is by far the most exhilarating, especially with titanium straight pipes!

 

I've had my yellow CGT for about 6 weeks now. Decided on it rather than a Macca or a 458. Love its straight forward mechanical nature. Like my Ford GT in that regard. The sound it makes is visceral for sure. The fun starts at 5k rpms. Took the wife to dinner in it last night. What a blast. Clutch is no big deal. The car is not a drag racer, but basically a street legal LeMans car, so first gear just gets you rolling...then it's on! No buyers remorse here. Drove it to C and C in Dallas last Saturday. Lots of attention since not many CGT's seen in the wild.

A FGT and a CGT? I think you truly own two of the most special cars made in the last 10 years by a long shot.

 

What is the car in the foreground in this picture? I think I've seen that badge before but rarely...

Get Jim to peddle you round in his - I was amazed how compliant his was on the roads we took to Heshey a couple of weeks back. Fabulous car with out a doubt and you know I know my porsches !

 

Personally, I think the CGT is a great value in the supercar arena. If you can find one in anything other than silver, more power to ya.

Btw joe, won't you loose some sort of bet if you sell the 458.

 

The CGT is the most exhilarating, adrenaline pumping car I've ever had the privilege of owning and driving. Last week I logged over 1,600 miles though the desert of Arizona and Nevada to the snowing mountains of Northern California (wasn't planning on seeing snow in May!! But I made it somehow) and through Oregon and Washington state. At the end of my journey I wanted to keep going! With every mile my respect and admiration for this car grows. It's completely analog, has absurdly high limits and demands competent driver inputs.

The clutch is a little tricky in the beginning but you get use to it and it's nothing. If anything, it just adds to the experience of driving the car. I had the straight pipes installed on mine last month and I wouldn't have it any other way. The F1 sound is heavenly.

 

havent driven a 458 yet but I sold a lambo and 430 a while back and got my CGT. no regrets (and I loved those cars). last of the stick shift super cars and raw fun to drive. like the other owners said, ease off the clutch (with no gas input) to get rolling and then its game on. definitely requires more skill to drive it fast than the new cars with all kinds of traction control, e-diff, etc.

Chicago Bentley dealer [Bentley Gold Coast] has a CGT on their showroom floor. Saw it in person a few days ago. Silver/Grey.

Are there noteworthy difference between model years?

 

Aside from MY no noteworthy differences at all.

 

My CGT is the car I would keep if I had to get rid of everything in my garage.

 

I have a 458 spider and a cgt. The CGT is a no brainer in terms of timeless cars to have. I have had a lot of cars and this is the first one that after 3 years of owning it I still am convinced I will never sell it. It's that special.
