Just purchased a Ferrari F50 and was thinking about getting rid of a car to make room. Wife recommends to get rid of the F40 or Carrera GT. It is such a difficult decision. If I were to sell one of them, I would want to purchase it back at a later date unless the car values goes through the roof. I hired an architect to expand my garage but that wont be done until mid next year. What would you recommend? Any input would greatly be appreciated.

In all seriousness, install a lift until your addition is ready.

Storage for the car for the next 15 months will likely be cheaper than the cost of selling and then buying another CGT. No worries about buying someone else's problem.

    Hold on...

You have 12 cars and you are considering getting rid of the F40 and/or CGT ? So what are the cars you 'must' keep ? I hope we're talking 250 GTO's...lol

I would say let your local dealer (whihc you must have a good relationship with) hold onto one of the cars in their showroom.

You must mean mental problem or chemical imbalance. Did not tell wife about F50 and when she found out I lied to her that it only cost $400K. Got caught on that too so I promised one of the cars will go.

A friend of mine once bought a 1.5M sailboat... didn't tell the wife. one day he brings her by to show her the boat he was "thinking about buying". She said... what the hell are you going to do with another sailboat (had 2 others). He kept the boat for 3 years and never told her!

30 plus cars and a 12 car garage with 7 lifts. Hard to let any of them go like a pack RAT.

You guys are good. I don't see how someone can buy a car or boat and not have the wife find out.
If you have a 12 car garage with 7 lifts, you'd be owning a garage capable of holding 19 cars, correct? Well, if you have 30 plus cars with this current 19 car garage, can't you then just keep the F40 or the CGT with one of those 11 others?

Of course, I may be misunderstanding you.

WOW...sucks being you huh? Should I put on my diamond and platinum Piloti's and go out in the CGT, or the Emerald and gold Piloti's and take the F50??? Hmmm, such a tough decision. Sure glad I don't have to make such hard choices on a daily basis! DAMN!

In all seriousness though, I am green with envy and as suggested I would find secure storage somewhere so as not to worry about having to buy back at a later date at possibly inflated prices or buying someone else's problems. If you can afford those cars, that garage, and a future expansion, you should not have any problem finding a place that can lock your car up for you for the next 18 months.

That said, if you really want to just part w/ something the CGT is the logical choice. They are newer, they built WAY MORE of them and they are probably going to continue to decline in value for the next few years. You could probably sell your can now and buy it back for less in 2 years... That is a TOTAL guess, but just my current view of the situation... Though right now as the economy slows, so to the exotic car market. 18 months ago would probably have been the best to time have sold it...or find an oil executive to buy, those guys are ROLLING in money right now. Looks like one in Houston recently bought a McLaren F1 for $2.5MM!

Best of luck and I would LOVE to see a pic of the garage set up! I have a six car that I can put lifts in and am looking to build another six bay that is double deep so I can park my motor home along the back part...two huge end doors so I don't have to back the beast in and out.

I had a similar problem once when I was playing Forza Motorsport on xbox 360. I really wanted that stage 4 weight reduction on my turbocharged 16v Golf mk2, but I didn't want to part with any of my 12 cars.

If you live in 3 states GLC, why don't you just leave a car someplace else?

F40 is a better investment. if you have to pick, i would get rid of the Carrera GT...you could always find another one next year and yell you might be able to find it cheaper than!

    Thanks James

If I sell the Carrera GT now and by the time my addition is built, I can probably purchase a comparable car for less money since they built so many of them. Both production numbers of the F40 and the CGT are around the 1,300 mark. If the car appreciates in value, which I seriously doubt, I would probably purchase it a bit earlier so I would not have to pay no more than a $100K premium from the price I sold it.

They are GREAT cars, but it is only logical given the situation... F40 or CGT??? They made what 2X as many CGT's, or more. They were last made 2 years ago... They still need to depreciate before they go up in value again (if they even ever do), so the wise choice right now is get rid of that one and then buy it back later at a discount. If there are other choices those were not laid out initially.

    YMMV,
    James

Dont sell the Carrera GT ! You can hide it at my place :D .

In dont see the CGT devaluating and with the dollar so low , they are being snatched by Europeans ..All in all 1250 cars isnt that much for a worldwide market..
