Agreed. As a collector who views design aesthetic as an essential trait of any car I own, I’d say it’s one of the greatest designs of all time. If you haven’t seen one in person, it’s difficult to appreciate how striking and timeless it truly is.

Interesting discussion. Is the CGT one of history’s greatest cars? IMO, yes no doubt. Is it so because of the exterior design of the car? IMO no. The rear end design of the car is epic. The side view suffers only because of the compromise of the targa top.

I own a car with a similar side view targa design, a ’99 Lamborghini Diablo Roadster. With the top on, a little awkward, with the top off sheer beauty and adds all the advantages that top off motoring offers, especially those paired with great sounding engines (Porsche 10 cylinder or the Bizzarrini Lamborghini V-12). So you leave the top off. So I think the targa design is a huge plus for the CGT….a compromise well worth it.

The front for me is the weak point of the design, it looks like it was grafted from another car….the design language doesn’t match the rest of the car.

The quote in question also compares the design of the CGT to the Ford GT (and I’m assuming he is talking about the generation that the CGT shares not the new one). I own a 2005 Ford GT and I personally think that design is about as good as automobile design gets (the Miura says hello). I just don’t know how mid-2000s Ford did that. Beautiful from every angle. Even the engine compartment is a work of art, just like the CGTs is.

Having said all this, would I trade both my cars for a CGT? Yes, of course. A random post here and there about something being ugly or design neutral (which is an odd statement for an artistic conversation) doesn’t change that.

CGT owners are fortunate to be caretakers for these wonderful cars.

    What track is that?

Yes, nice details, not stunning, but nice.

Of course, I take much of what you say with a grain of salt. You are, after all, a used car salesman and the CGT is one of your wares.
I would be stunned if you criticized your product. :)

I speak as an enthusiast which I'm known to be long before I became a Supercar Specialist, I don't personally sell CGTs (my son does) but I'm an admirer as are millions worldwide, not to mention the 1,200 + people who own them.

It's automotive art and as with anything, the design will always be subjective, so it's okay if it doesn't appeal to some people, that doesn't stop those who love it from appreciating it.

I do sell Carrera GTs, and I'll be the first to tell you - if you don't like the way it looks, or anything else about it, don't buy one! The line for admission into the CGT club is already long enough.

    Yours Truly,
    "Used Car Salesman" :)

    Silverstone.
This was a very special car, a real unicorn.
The only PTS Cobalt Blue car produced. It had been serviced every single year at Porsche UK, the only dealer sanctioned to work on CGT’s.
I did 5 track days in her but let her go to scratch the F40 itch. No regrets. Both are great cars.
Will probably get another but rather than one at the top of the price bracket will get a higher miler silver car and do a colour change which doesn’t affect prices in UK. If anything seems to help. A friend bought a Midnight blue car for top money that used to be silver.

Sterling sold one into a major Supercar collection this year in PTS Biarritz White which I saw, images can never convey how striking it is in person, which IMO is true of all CGTs.

I have a couple hundred miles under my belt on the CGT since acquiring it last month and couldn’t be more ecstatic about it. The car feels so light, direct, and raw. It is an extremely visceral experience that modern hypercars just don’t deliver. The thing I was most concerned about before buying one was whether it could be enjoyed at street speeds and the answer is emphatically, yes. It is truly one of the greats!

Having bought and sold half a dozen cars through Sterling, I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out to him as a buyer or seller for a hassle free deal. No affiliation of course, just a satisfied customer.
