What an incredible combo!
Anyone care to document and photograph each luggage piece for posterity here? I am going to pull out my ancillary stuff that CGT owners might want to find/purchase and post them here. Things like the CGT specific torque wrench, CGT specific lift kit, and ultra rare wooden lift ramps needed to get the lifts arm under the car (had actual part numbers from Porsche but not made by Porsche so I grabbed a set in 2011).... Seen here in a photo on another forum. Ill detail them as they are actually beautifully made like everything else having to do with the car.
Details, up close & personal. The rear engine cover section of the Carrera GT is the most divisive part of its styling, but in reality it does help somewhat with a problem that most supercars have: rearward visibility. On top of that, the choice here makes for a very unique look that stands out from the crowd rather than taking on the traditional supercar wedge shape that has been repeated time & time again. The starter is on the left in the Carrera GT and activated by a key, as is tradition for all classic Porsches. No starter buttons here! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some further cutaway press illustrations. Note the red/black interior in the first picture, if only that choice had made regular production! The third picture details how much airflow is going on within the car's nose. It's amazing how much of an "aero" car the Carrera GT is without it looking like the typical be-winged supercar. The final picture shows just how compact the gearset within the unique 6-speed transverse transmission really is. My favorite is 2005 CGT #658 (VIN ends in 001281). It's Fayence Yellow and it was selected by Porsche for interior marketing photos and has a full black leather interior without any plastic and has yellow stitching. It was for sale way back in the day for $395k with 1k miles...wish I had the money. Does anyone know where it now is?
Benchmark design doesn't always follow-the-crowd, and I think this feature is a perfect example of this.
The Carrera GT Specific Torque Multiplier. The missing piece here came in every car under the front hood which physically goes around the centerlock. It is embossed the same way as on this piece. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The way to lift a Carrera GT on a normal lift is easy. First drive the car onto the below Bott lift plates, giving you enough room to screw in the metal securing plates. Now there is a place to put the lift attachment points on something other than the carbon tub. Put the screw eyes in, wrap the yellow straps around and through, and then secure down. Its a race car. Love the factory wood piece! Finally I understand the t-shirts which members of the secret society of CGT owners wear emblazoned with the caption "Got Wood?"
On the topic of the rear of the CGT design, the double bubble originated by Zagato can be seen on other Porsche cars. To me it looks perfect when you are live next to the car. Notably this feature went into the 1989 Speedster then into subsequent speedsters, and followed through to other 911's like the 997 Sport Classic and the RS cars of today. The roof bubbles said to help with helmets in the car without sacrificing aerodynamics.
Inspecting a Carrera GT for a great repeat client today. Let's take a moment to appreciate the amount of aerodynamic design going on underneath this car, and the principal reason why it generates loads of downforce without big wings or appendages... Image Unavailable, Please Login
My CGT. I think it looks best in white, with red being my second choice. Also love it in yellow. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the wonderful thread on a fantastic car! Here's a color palette from a get together we had on the east coast last summer, we had 13 all together!
