Nice old thread. Should try to update. The Chinetti car you are looking for is from 1953 not 1954. I will look for you. We are having a special model theme in the Ferrari Expo 2011 model contest for Carrera Pan America cars next year. I am building 2 BBR Ferrari kits and 1 BBR Porsche kit for the event.
You're right, that was IV Panamericana, in 1953. The car ran the 1954 edition too, but that's another history. There's a couple of 1/43 models of this car: Top Model: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/7083/topmodelk.jpg http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/6105/sinttulo1lsu.jpg MG_Model: http://www.carmodel.net/zoomPage.php?NDMyODk8Oj4wPDo+YWRkVG9DYXJ0KCdUVWN0VFU5RVJVdzhPejVRVWtRdExXRnNiQzB3TFRNd0xUSXRNUT09JywnJywgJycsICcnLCcnLCAnYWRkLTEtNDMyODknLCAnMCcp But in my oppinion the first brand to make the model improvised a lot when drawing these badges - they made the lateral ones oval, and they were clearly not - and the other brand copied them.
I still cant figure it out. I have a few more pictures of the car but you just can't tell. Maybe its an autoclub sticker. I found another car with a similar type sticker from 1953, but not the same and it was an autoclub. The 1/43rd decals are very undetailed, so they did not know either. Maybe this thread should be in vintage section.
Sportscar Club Of America sticker. Thank you. We need more Carrera Pan Americana photos!!! If you want to see some nice handbuilt models from the Carrera Pan Americana, come and see the Expo model contest next year. The model quality at this show is very high. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, I had arrived to the same conclusion, although I though the letters background was silver, I'll have to correct this. For the left one (right in the picture) I've drawn an ANA logo, which looks rather like the one in the picture. The other two are just fantasy, but "si non è vero è ben trobato", like Italians say... I have a photo which show part of the stickers involved with a somewhat sharper detail. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the close up photos. I found a few PanAm photos and a old Pirelli ad reprint at alfabb and some other public picture websites. These are for research only. Some are on the last page also. Thanks, Boudewijn! I'm afraid I didn't get even close... Anyone can read the letters in the steering wheel shaped logo? ASACO? USACO?
The one under the Sports Car Club of America looks like a steering wheel with three circles one besides the other, each one with a number inside, 4 - 2 - 1 I would say. Does it say anything to anyone?
Well, it wasn't 4 2 1 but A C I (Automobile Club d'Italia). Now, the one to the right side of the car. Round in shape, divided diagonally in two colours, a very light one (white or yellow) and a dark one, with a small object - a car's shape? in the lower part. Any ideas? Maybe this one? It belongs to the Le Mans 24 hours Auto Club, and having into account that Chinetti had won several times tthat race before 1953, he was probably member of the Club. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I still think this belongs in the vintage section. Here are a few more photos from public websites: Ferrari Expo 2011 will have Carrera Panamerica as a special added theme in the hand built model contest. Francis Muller, also know as Giotto on Ferrarichat found your right side logo. Here is the photo. It is the Association Generale Automobile des Pilotes Independents(AGACI), a French club from Paris. Chinetti after all was an automobile distributor and driver in France for several years before coming to America, so that makes sense. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks to you all, this model has been possible. It's not me who has done it, but Carlos Duran, from Sevilla, Spain, I've just made the decals. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks nice. What scale is that, 1/32nd?? How much would is cost to have some made up in 1/24th scale?
Yes, it's a 1/32 scale slot car. Since these decals are custom made, I must ask for Carlos permission for printing them for third parties, but in this particular case, having into account your help in the research process, I'm sure he'll grant it. The price for 1/24 would be 10€ + 5€ of shipping fees. Shipping fees are the same for any quantity of decals, so you can have a look to my webpage to see if there's any other ones you could be interested in: www.artecnodecals.com Most prices are for 1/32 scale, but all of them they can be re-scaled.
A few more vintage photos I found from the Carrera Panamericana. If you find anymore please post. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello All! Does anyone out there have/know where there is a picture of Car #4 in race markings from the 1954 race? I have seen pics of the car post race but nothing taken during the race. I believe the car was: Ferrari 375MM #4 Drivers- Bonomi/Peyloubet (sn #0358AM) I believe this same car raced in the 1953 race driven by Maglioli as car #12 so hopefully someone out there took a picture of it at the 1954 event. Thanks Terry Jones Ottawa,Canada
