This hidden thread is AMAZINGLY timely - I'm kitting out an electric 250 GTO kids' car with Carrera Panamericana livery for my nephew. Yes, not exactly period-correct but it's vintage and it's going to be inspired by the sponsors, typefaces and style captured in the photos here. Perfect timing! Thanks to you all!

Nice vintage video from the 1954 race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOzMe5r85ms&feature=related Notice the 250 Monza #22 is light red, not dark red like the car is restored to now.
Not sure why they painted the restored car that way. Maybe the paint got dark due to age, so when they tried to match the darkened color they made an error in judgement? The restored car does seem to be the wrong color "as raced in the Carrera 1954", that is almost certain.
"That's not Ferrari red, it's Ford Truck Red...." Lot's of them were repaired "over here" with colors at hand, not what it wore OEM, so going back to OEM would be slightly different....
The restored car in maroon, wich is not even close to the 250 Monza's color at PA 1954. The restored car has graphics that replicate the car as raced at PA 1954. The color they painted the restored car is wrong for PA 1954.

Hey guys just to let you know the 1954 plate for Car #11 "El Caballo" driven by Ak Miller is for sale on ebay!!! (Item #270644806026) 8 hours to go, bidding @ $500 USD (reserve not met) Go get it!! Cheers! Terry Jones Ottawa, Canada
Here are a few frames from the Carrera 1954 video. The Ferrari 250 Monza is clearly light red, not the restored maroon color. Another suprise is the Goldish color of the Porsche 550 Canada Shoes(class winning 1953 chassis now topless). All the 1/43rd makers including BBR thought it was silver. BBR's decal sheet is also missing alot of the sponsors and logos(half are missing). Does anyone know how much longer the 250 Monza was compared to a normal Monza?? I know the chassis frame was stretched, but none of the books say by how much.
