So is the prior attribution correct: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ferraris-at-motor-shows.507048/page-7#post-144428223 ? Meaning at the March 1953 Salon International Automobile Moto-Cycle, Geneva, they had all three, 0261EU 0265EU 0271EU ?
My picture, the start of Tour d'Elegance 2014... sorry, I forgot the chassis no. It's my favorite Vignale Ferrari. john Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ferrari stand in 1953 was only good for displaying 3 cars. I don't think PF had a stand of their own in Geneva at this time, so when 0250/MM (!) arrived late, they needed to remove one of the 212 Inters and so 0265EU was pushed to a completely different location. Then we have a weird claim of 0246AL having been converted to look like a standard 212 Inter before having been displayed in Geneva 1953, which is why I think someone just confused 0265EU and 0246AL with each other. Relatively similar cars completed about the same time, and both of them were black. When photos did not match, a fairytale of a remodeling of 0246AL was created to patch things up. Will rethink if photos of 0246AL in Geneva ever come up, but definitely not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login This one turns me crazy ! #51 at Coppa Inter-Europa in 1953. I first thought to 0223EU but it’s not. Who can help ? Thanks in advance !
Absolutely nothing ! Sorry Marcel ! This car should be 0223EU but there are several differences that makes me think it’s another car. I’m lost !
Image Unavailable, Please Login Here is a pic of 0223EU. Could be the unknown #51 Vignale coupe but there are many differences that make me doubt...
I'm pretty sure it is the long lost 0241/EU. Designwise it is clear step forward from 0223/EU-0239/EU-0243/EU soon followed by clearly different 0251/EU. Plate must be "MI 21xxxx", so first registered around May-June 1953.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Why not ? It looks like to this one I once suggested too it could be 0241EU. If you look carefully, both cars don’t have side windows’s deflectors...
#51 at CIE Monza 1953 is very close to 0251 EU but that didn't have the ridge on the hood. Italian plates Milan "MI 21XXXX" started in March 1953 and went into July 1953. Marcel Massini
Another one of 0223 EU taken at the same time, both pix taken 29 June 1953. I own the originals. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
I repeat: 0251/EU is clearly different, totally different design. What comes to driver, I would look into Cornacchia's contacts, Piotti in particular. Piotti clearly did not start with 212 Export 0111ES #53. Never heard of a Mr. Boldini racing anything anywhere, but Cornacchia often raced cars he then sold off to his customers. It was so common that it has made me even think that he might have raced new cars to see/show that the cars really works as they should. Off course it is also easy on capital, to race cars that come in and go out.
It’s interesting to note 0251EU had design between the others Vignale coupes (0223EU, 0231EL, 0239EU, 0241EU, 0243EU...) and 0232AL (Vignale convertible). Look especially the large convex grill + folds around headlights...
No need to "repeat" something here........ I did NOT say the Monza pic of #51 posted by Aardy is 0251 EU. I stated that looks and design of the #51 Monza car are similar or close to what 0251 EU looked like originally but that there is one quick visual difference which is the lack of ridge on the hood. As for 0241 EU Mr. Boldini is the name of the first private owner. He bought it from Cornacchia. Source: Factory dox that I have. Marcel Massini
Boldini bought it from Cornacchia ? Another lead to the #51 car as Cornacchia must have entered the car at Coppa Inter-Europa as was saying Kare in post #671...
Boldini bought 0241 EU from Cornacchia. The question is, WHO raced the #51 Monza car and WHO entered it in the Coppa Inter Europa 1953? Marcel Massini
