Is it strange to desire a car built the same year as personal life events?

    birth year
    wedding
    kid's birth year
    school graduation
    etc. etc.

Why is it just cooler in my head to think "two great things happened in 1971... I was born and Ferrari built this gtc/4".... or "two great things happened in 1990... I met my wife and Ferrari built this testarossa."

Anyone else or is this just a personal weirdness.

I've always wanted a 1963 split window Corvette. Not only because it is a unique model but coincidentally my birth year...

I don't think it's weird. This is the reason they have those cards in gift stores that show how much different items cost that year.

I turned 16 in 1987 and got my drivers license. My Mondial is an 1987. It was random and I didn't realize it for about 6 months, but when I put it together it became a fun thing to think and talk about.

Also fun to connect with technology from a certain era.

    I bought a '66 Jaguar E-Type as it was my wife's birthyear.

I also want to purchase 2 odd cars that have the same name as my daughters...so it's not so strange...

That's why I only own sports cars made in years where Ayrton Senna won championships.

Well, not really, but cool when I think about it like that.

I have way to many life events to be buying vehicles based on them! interesting concept though...

Cool in my book. Just another way to enjoy and appreciate the cars and the times in which they were made.

My first car was the same age as me, but it was due in large part to financial concerns ;).

I was born in 1949, and would gladly take a 166 Barchetta built the same year.

    Back in the day, I had a silver/black split-window.

This is really important to me also. I need a Ferrari built in 1953. I'll take any model.....including the less desirable models.

I don't think it is odd at all. How many of you got your wife a piece of jewelry when your son/daughter was born? The car is the same idea except the jewelry doesn't have a year on it. When a buddy of mine turned 50 in 2009, I bought him a watch from 1959. He still wears it almost everyday. I was born in 1971 and have a 1971 Mustang that has been in the family since new. When I get rid of it, I will probably buy a car from another year that is important to me. Now if I could just trade my 1969 Ferrari for a 1971... :)

...speaking of strange, I learned AFTER purchase that my '99 456M GT 6-speed had IN-SERVICE date that matched my birthday month & date... I feel like it was born to be mine... eerie serendipity. After I learned this, I feel like I'm welded to the car's soul.

When I founded my company the cool new Ferrari was the F355. The build month and year on my F355 is the same as the incorporation date.
