He just had a kid, and his bride has been working on him. He still resents that Rossi is still getting a lot of press, and feels that Rossi is the Golden Boy in MotoGP, and that nobody respects him (Stoner). I suspect he might change his mind if he wins the championship this year, maybe.

I hope he can stay away if this is his decision.

Yeap it's been big news all day here.

Rumours already that he might join the V8Supercar circuit next season.

Respectively disagree. Stoner is not interested in the press at all, in fact I believe he hates that side of the sport.

If you don't want to do it anymore, the safest thing is to walk away before you hurt yourself.

A completely neutral observation, but it all seems
    like a cop out.

When a driver gets to this level of the sport, he
knows full well going in that when manufacturer's and
their associated sponsors are involved, there is a
built-in global media following. Like it or not, it's
part of the game and, in part, is what helps pay
    driver's salaries.

The issue of including non-prototype bikes in the equation
seems to go along with current economic times. We see
in nearly every major racing series now inclusion of
second tier classes to help fill out fields (IE: GT Challenge
in ALMS or even "Start & Park" cars in NASCAR). The starting
grids of MotoGP last year was rather paultry especially compared
    to FIM Superbikes.

And, then Rossi. With Rossi, we have a multi time
World Champion and as flamboyant a personality (regardless
of sport) anywhere. With Rossi's personality, on track
accomplishments and a walking quote machine, naturally
the press is going to be drawn to him, he deserves the attention.

I personally root for Stoner and if he wants to let his
driving do the talking for him, that's fine but he's well
advised to not alienate himself from the media as that's a
battle he's surely not going to win.

Hopefully, all this won't distract from the great season
    he's having so far.

    Come with the territory.
You want money, backing, then you do the press work.

I could not have said it any better, well done Barton.

It appears I might be incorrect as I saw a short for an interview with Stoner and he seemed to indicate that he was not happy with the way people view him ... but this really does go both ways. If you are not prepared to play the press then the press are not going to roll out the red carpet.

Real shame if this is the reason ...

He's been pissing and moaning about Rossi and the press he gets along with what Stoner believes is preferential treatment by Dorna. Away from the press he's more outspoken about these slights, real or imagined.

Great talent , but a sniveler.
