Years ago, before I got my 308GTS QV, I remember reading an article that was critical about the quality of Ferrari engine parts castings.

Today I removed my throttle housing as it was the only way to get two of the injectors out and change the seal for the air adjusting screw. Everything got a thorough cleaning and injectors installed.

The surprise was how rough the casting looked for the box that connects to the intake manifolds.

Yeah that looks about normal, back then Ferrari was hand pouring the castings from what I've seen. Casting quality is all over the map, I was also told the "junk" went to the US market.
At least the machined steel bits are far better.

Comparing my 308 castings with a decade earlier 911 and a 50+ year older Hispano Suiza engine was quite surprising. That the Teutonic castings were so much better is not surprising but they were not even close to Spanish castings from half a century earlier. I'm shallow and fall for the pretty body :)
