Anybody else been there? I will post pics in a few days but it's One of the better air park museums I have seen. Unfortunate that Castle is closed and it's a bit off the beaten path....

It was the first time I have seen a B-36 in person. Lots of other near stuff too...

I visited the Castle museum way back in '89 and was quite impressed. They have one of the only Northrop A-9s ever built.

Me either. Did some looking on the 'net. Evidently they were put into production because they were ready, and the B-47 and B-48 were not. Not a terribly good plane. Slow and thirsty, with low range, but one of the first (if not the first) jet bomber capable of in-air refueling. Eventually it got phased out in favor of the B-47, which in turn was replaced by the B-52, which is still with us. Still like that movie, Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart, however, with those B-47s.

Don't forget the B-36s... the B-47 was later in the movie.

Have a soft spot for the B-36; they were stationed at Kirtland AFB (with Sandia Base) in Albuquerque when I was a kid. NOTHING louder than one landing over your house.

Dan (Bobafett), Art, and PeterS and I used to go karting out in Atwater and Castle is right around the corner from the Subway I would pick up sandwhiches at. Dan and I stopped by a couple times and checked out the planes from the outside, but never had the time to do the full thing. Love the SR71 just hanging out right by the parking lot.
