FWIW I have used Castrol LMA GT brake fluid since about 1980. It was suggested to me by a friend when the generic dot 3 fluid was turning the rubber in my reservoir caps to paste. Other than normal wear issues of the seals I have had no problems with the Castrol brake fluid. My clutch reservoir in my 280Z had to be replaced after 31 years and 370 thousand miles of service....all on Castrol GT brake fluid. Not too shabby!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. BTW the synthetic is probably just as good, if not better than the original.

    Ciao,
    George

Look at your service manual and use the recommended fluid...don't fool with brakes :)

Castrol GT LMA is a fine product and is what I typically I use in my customer's cars.

The use of the term "synthetic" is apparently a labeling change, not really a new product.

I agree with George and Tim, the LMA is a fine product for use on cars that get regular use. I use it on all of the Vintage cars unless they are race track bound and no self respecting English car is complete without a partial bottle leaking in the boot. The LMA is not considered a "performance" fluid but for street use I have never had an issue.

I was unaware they changed the labeling as I buy it in case lots and havent run through the last batch. Did you verify this Tim?

I agree to an extent but what was state of the art when the 308 was produced may not be state of the art today. Also car makers tend to recomend fluids and components from companies that they have ties with and give them discounts (not saying they are under spec) but it is business.

    LOL

I looked it up on their website, no mention of a "new" product (the word "synthetic" was not used there). I saw a posting on another board that mentioned a label change and an increased boiling point but no real formulation change.

Castrol GT LMA is great stuff. Most brake fluids you will find today are "synthetic". Don't let the name deter you. It works well, is compatible with the 308 brake system (any DOT 3/4 fluids are fine), and is an excellent choice for your brakes. I used it in my 84 Mondial QV, and have used it exclusively on all of the vintage cars I've owned, including a number of Jaguar XKEs. I was using it in my '78 GTS, but switched over to ATE Super Blue racing fluid when I took the car up to Watkins Glen last year for the FCA Annual Meet. Next time I change the fluid, I'll probably go back to Castrol.

Castrol just changed the labeling on the GTLMA product. It is the same great stuff that they have always made, and will work fine in your 308.
We use it in practically all cars that come through our shop (except 288GTO/F40).

Great stuff. Use it with much success in my cars. Suggest you do a flush when you convert to it. Should be compatible with other fluids but don't fool around with your brakes...flush and refill.
