    I am in shock.

I LIKE the guy - a lot - but I never thought he would get off.

But, I also wonder how they could charge him with tax evasion on monies he never received..

I agree; I thought he was screwed. The jury must have been single women...

Big story here in Indy of course. Word is a 1pm pst press conference in Long Beach today. A Penske transporter just had a Verizon sticker placed on it.

Will they run 3 cars this weekend? We'll know in 1/2 hour!

Great news for a great guy! Now if they would only go after the crap in Washington it would be even better news.

He's not entirely clear yet. The jury hung on the conspiracy charge and the judge declared a mistrial. The Useless Attorney's Office, I mean US Attorney's Office, says they'll have to decide whether to retry him on that one. But if the jury walked him, and his sister, and his sports lawyer, on all substantive counts of tax evasion, that is what we call in law enforcement A CLUE, one that the USAO had better heed.

A tax lawyer I knew around here got indicted a couple years ago as part of a huge alleged tax scam, and he beat it too. This is supposed to be rare. IRS CID and DOJ need to be more careful who they decide to pick on.

Now back to racing and dancing.

5 men and 7 women. Unbelievable. I'll wait to read the details but that money was earned in the U.S. It was called non employee compensation, but still earned here.

Not guilty on 6 counts. Jury was hung on the 7th count of conspiracy. Judge ruled mistrial on 7th count. Could he be retried. Defense said the 5 million was put in an annuity that would mature later this year and the tax would be paid at that time.

Heard it on the radio out in the garage earlier. Just had to do a small happy dance on that one. Wife later came out and said Penske had a jet in route to pick him up to get him to Long Beach to race.

I am looking forward to watching him race on Sunday!

they made it clear that you can't decide when to receive (ie, to defer) compensation.

Ok, that said, let's say you defer compensation for, let's say 5 years.
Now it's 5 years later, and the folks that owe you money have declared
bankruptcy and are out of business, you don't receive a penny.

How are you taxed now ? On money you THOUGHT you had ? It makes no sense.

But it's also the IRS, so it makes perfect sense:

'We know you had a dream on winning the $100 Million dollar lottery, but you didn't win it, but we still want 50% of your dream...'

Penske is running a 3rd car (#12) for Will Power this weekend...is this permanent? Through Indy?

I'd love to see Power stay w/ Penske!

Penske is just running a car for Power this weekend, and at Indy... Nothing else planned at the moment.
