This Cat D-8 got pulled into this massive grinder. Pretty cool stuff. Edit: My link doesn't go to the right page, but the D-8 is a track-type tractor. Operating weight, ~85000 lbs. It looks like some type of open pit mine. I have seen some this large in Northern MN. Not sure if this is where it happened. Like hwyengr said the Powerpoint presentation was in german
It's easy if you have a Bucyrus Erie 2570WS handy, no problems lifting this 130 ton Cat D11 that fell in a hole........ Posted before in this thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Most likely Germany. The "scoopy" thing is a rotary bucket open mine scraper. Most are made and used in Germany. They are about the biggest land vehicles ever made. The total weight of one of these things is between 10,000-15,000 tons. (Or about what a Navy Cruiser in WW2 weighed.)
Wow - not that is a big Earth Mover! I grew up in Marion Ohio - home of Marion Power Shovel. In the late 70's when I was about 10 years old - I had a picture taken beside what was then the largest free moving earth mover ever made. It was HUGE. This is about 20 times the size of what that was! Wow!
I actually remember hearing about this on Discovery channel. Apparently they *are* the largest land vehicles ever made, and are constructed for around $80 million? Hard to believe something like that is so affordable, but then again, aside from raw materials and logistics, it's not that sophisticated a machine? I can't help but think... How do you think they keep one of those things above the dirt in a rainstorm... That's alot of weight... and there's not THAT MUCH surface area on its treds....
Sure, it would be safe in a front impact, but what kind of lap time are we talking 'bout at the 'Ring?
