Yes, its a totaled car. And it wasn't fixed properly on its frontal body parts. and I got it for 50% below what a nice car should ask for.
Before you test this steering rack, it might be an idea to look at the power steering pump to check it is not putting too much pressure out at end of stroke. When the lock is full on, you would think there would be something to unload the assisting pressure, my thinking being a sudden seal failure that bad has to have a cause. My RAV4 power steering changes tone when on full lock as if a relief valve is lifting. in the past it would not supply any pressure sometimes when the engine was started, but if you switched off and restarted it was fine for months, in the end we changed the fluid and no more issues- so the pump did have a loading and unloaded state.
total of 4 seals, with 2 of them identical. so we are looking at 3 types of seals. type 1 and type 2 are as follows, with its size engraved on it actually. Again great job and well presented even if it scares me, love that pipe wrench! Also, really liking that complex mathematical worksheet the seals were on.
Thanks for the excellent photos and description! Great job. I also like the BA pipe wrench and the ingenuity
Great write up and photos. My contribution for this could be the two bearings on the pinion shaft. Lower one at the pinion end NTN 6001, and upper one by the universal joint INA F 65769.
