    Here we go;

I certainly don't always agree with what this guy writes, but in this case I think he's making sense - If, and it's a huge if, the PU guys stomp their feet things could change.....

    Cheers,

    Now Sauber ...

""... as between team principal Monisha Kaltenborn remaining coy on the prospect of Sauber making it to the grid next season and rumors of bailout talks involving Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, it is apparent the Swiss team is running well in the red."

lol. entities on the brink contractually obligated to spend more money to prop up someone else's pocket book. There's a recipe for stability and success. If there's no money whatever the contract says it ain't going to put more cars on the grid.

When did they really have any at all?

Sometimes I wonder if these teams cant get sponsors because they just don't know how to play the game.

Must be difficult to get sponsors in their position.

However, they did have both GE and Airbus for a while; I suspect more as a result of Fernandez owning many of both 'products' than because they really wanted to be involved though....... Once he quit, guess they decided not to stick around.

A shame IMO. Never want to see any team bite the dust. They're out there working just as hard, if not harder, than the front runners.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Put yourself in their position. How would you pitch a potential sponsor?

That's the real reason, of course. But, what's the cover story to get it past the board? Sure as heck isn't tv time for the decal!

Marketing is not my forté but the more money sponsors can give the more
    competitive a team can be.

It is a case though for regulations to be as such to equalize teams better.

Caterham: Give us more money so we can be more competitive.
Sponsor: Wouldn't it cost about the same but give us more benefits with less risk if we just gave that money to a team that is already more competitive?

    You *are* the board!.... ;)

As far as tv time is concerned, surprisingly, you're going to get almost as much running at the back as at the front. One of the reasons the minnows always go out first; they get their tv exposure early on when no one else is out there.

Marketing geeks love that stuff; "our decals (sic) were seen by X-hundred million people last week!".... Certainly doesn't mean you're going to sell more widgets, but keeps the bean counters quiet for a while..... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

How much TV time does the Mercedes get after it leaves the others in the dust? Almost none

Doesn't work that way!...... A teeny decal on the Ferrari probably costs about as much as the entire side pod on the Caterham. And you get your ego stroked harder by them than Ferrari ever will..... Plus, doesn't everyone love an underdog? You could be a hero if your money helped them score a few points.....

And you, and your 'clients' are in the paddock! Rubbing shoulders with <insert your favorite here>. You may even get invited to VJ's yacht in Monaco! Or the 'interesting' looking after party in Sochi! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

True but the PR value of a championship goes a long way to compensate.

Seems like we're still not getting the full story on both this bit of news, and why he stopped before the race ended in Russia. He stated one thing at the time, and the team had a different answer, and now here's a third odd thing, on top of the issue of him driving or not anyway!

If his concern for his safety was also a result of thinking about Bianchi's crash and just a general concern about safety, well that sounds pretty normal to me considering what speeds these guys drive, but an F1 driver worried that his car is not being maintained properly just seems way out of place.

It looks like there is a shortage of spare parts at Caterham, following the baillifs' seizure of some of the equipment. They patch up suspension parts rather than systematically change them.
Not very reassuring from a driver's point of view, of course.
The stoppage at the last GP seems to have been ordered by the team to save mileage on the cars to make sure they can finish the season, and Caterham not being penalised for non-appearance, I guess. Caterham tried to explain it as brakes oveheating, but the driver didn't know why.
    Very strange.

Job fears as Caterham Formula 1 manufacturer hits the skids - Telegraph

Accountants Smith & Williamson have been appointed as administrators to Caterham Sports Limited (CSL), which is based Leafield, Oxfordshire.

CSL provides services to 1 Malaysia Racing Team (1MRT), the Malaysian company which operates the Caterham F1 Team in the Formula 1 World Championship.

Administrators said they have been engaged in “positive” talks with the racing team to see if CSL can continue to supply it but said that if an agreement cannot be reached they will begin discussions about selling the company’s assets.

Administrator Finbarr O’Connell said although the around 200 staff working in CSL’s factory had their contracts transferred over to 1MRT in the past few weeks, he said their jobs could be at risk if an arrangement is not struck soon.
