A singularly unattractive car. I averted my eyes when passing. Where has the wonderful Italian sense of aesthetics gone? It looks more like a Trasnformer toy than an Italian sports car. When people stop and stare it will not be in awe.
I am truly glad to see the critiques of the event are more about the participating Ferraris and not the event as a whole. Cavallino 2025 went off rather well. The field was full with some very rare Ferraris. Any first timers should have been blown away by the cars, the setting and everything that goes along with it. I have participated directly in over 30 Cavallinos. Obviously items have changed but to a new attendee I hope they are bitten by the new Cavallino bug and will remain so for a lifetime. I have been so blessed to be a part of Cavallino and the privilege of visiting our President's home. I am wishing Canossa the best.
You mean like all the cars that were entered for judging that the judges were never told about? Some of those cars were not judged for that reason until the awards meeting was half over even though the organizers were told in some cases within minutes after judging started? Or the fact that cars were scattered around the field irrespective of the class they were in and we were not provided with a map of where to find them until after we were supposed to be on the field causing a late start for an event we already did not have sufficient time for ? I personally was told of a car remaining to be judged when I was on my way to lunch and there were more after me. They have been spreading cars around stupidly since they took over but at least they used to tell us who to look for. One Chief Class Judge told me he spent 40 of his precious minutes looking for cars then looking for their owners who were not told in every case they needed to be with their cars.
These lifestyle brand companies that are buying up shows such as Cavallino and Amelia really need to hire organizers who know how to run a proper high end car show and not just an “event”. What you’re describing above mirrors the experience I had last year at Amelia. It was a complete **** show and the judges were left dealing with the fallout and some very pissed off owners. It’s kind of tough to attract quality judges and quality cars when this is what we’ve got to contend with. Tortellini and ridiculous clothing lines isn’t going to improve morale.
Funny, but that's exactly what I thought first time I saw an F40 and still hold that viewpoint of it, although in all fairness, almost every Ferrari model produced since qualify for same "(dis)honor".
Hey Brian, You are so right about the logistic side of the judging. I hope they take it more seriously and keep the standards high. I certainly don't want to see Cavallino morph into a lifestyle event at the expense of Ferrari history. They need less chiefs, one very credible chief that knows what is expected and can execute accordingly. Time will tell what their true goal is. They have bought one hell of a platform. Canossa, don't screw up a good thing.
Sad to hear that. A platinum award from Cavallino used to really mean something. Firing all the tenured judges and inviting unqualified influencers off the bat wasn’t a good start. Since then I think it’s lost its weight. It’s also being used now as a tool by brokers looking for a quick flip.
Then there was no Supercar award, there was no Flat 12 award. One other regular award was cut out too but I cannot recall what it was. We had 2 in the Supercar class and I know the flat 12 judges had a car they really wanted to recognize but nothing to give them. To be fair they only fired 4 or 5 judges but not a single one deserved it. As far as the brokers and quick flips, no question. See it every year. Several frequent fliers in that category.
It is getting a little silly the old school posts around here. Can you imagine the event today as it was declining the last few years with John Barnes? Would it even be in existence, it certainly took him several years to sell it. I know not the same as it was, but you can't deny Ferrari and the new culture has given it a shot in the arm. I think even under the status quo under Barnes the vintage quality turn out and judging was declining. Maybe this is the best going forward even if it isn't the 2000's. Ticket sales and the business end are certainly indicating it is a much better event, but I know this group is thinking the old days of $150 tickets. Nostalgia Is One Hell Of A Drug.
