    Dear all,

Sould this hose from the fuek cannister on a 1972 US car be clear green Cavis? The car came with an orange hose, which I replaced with the black rubber. Logic seems to say it should be Cavis, so I've since made that change too.

Hope the orange hose wasn't original as I' ve thrown it away!

    Many thanks.

I bought one by the part number from FAF in Atlanta years ago and it is a black hose with the word SIAG (sp?) on it.

Whoa! I jumped the gun. I was thinking of the hose going from the header tank to the engine. The hose you show should be the fabric covered hose similar to the ones that attach to the oil filler necks.

Well, is it Cavis or isn't it?

I haven't seen a cloth braided hose by Cavis. Looks like the other cloth braided hoses on the Dino that were maid by Siag.

As we have had few ‘purist’ points to discuss, allow me to continue on the topic of the fuel canister hose. Since the other (smaller) hose leading from the canister is green Cavis (mine appears original), I thought logic should dictate green Cavis hose should be correct for the other, larger hose. That also is consistent with I think is industry practice for those hoses then (see following note on Stratos hoses), at least where Dino engines are concerned!

Accordingly, I made the change from the black rubber hose and switched over to Cavis hose, as shown in the picture.

So, until there is evidence to the contrary, I propose green Cavis to be correct for this application! (I have kept the black hose, just in case).

My Stratos is I think quite original. I acquired it when it was 10 years old, when Stratos were unwanted, and have not restored it. When I bought the car, I thought that the green hoses for the fuel tank breathers had been installed by the previous owner (and I wondered why he would choose such a ghastly color). Their replacement (with clear plastic hose) was on my to-do list. However, the hoses had fused to the fuel tank breather tubes and wouldn’t budge, so I decided to live with them for a while longer.

I didn’t know about Cavis hose until I joined Ferrari Chat, so of course am now quite happy I did not replace the hoses on the Stratos (and thrown them away). They have “Cavis” stenciled into them, as I later discovered. Thank you, Ferrari Chat.

    Hello fellow Stratos owner,
Pretty sure that the green cavis hose is not used on the vapor cannister as shown in your Dino picture. Looked at several pics of original engine bays that show the larger hose to be cloth covered while the smaller hose is cavis. Here is one of the pics showing the braided hose.

That looks like a new photo, Racerboy? Best guide would be a period photograph or an unrestored barn-find.

This photo is supposed to be of an original unmolested car and that is why I saved it. Hose looks the same as my '74 GTS that I have had for 25 years. Did you look at OMG Johns restoration photos? Looks like he started with a pretty original low miles car.

You're probably right, Racerboy. That braided hose is roughly the same size as the oil breather hoses? I did check for period photographs in magazines and books, but found none.

Took the Dino for a sports car club meeting this morning. A 330GT came too - the first "early" Ferrari in Manila. Not too many here.

    Warm regards,

    Andy

original hoses in one of my dino's. call me a baby, but these are the hoses that were commented by judges at a car show for looking old and needing to be replaced, hence a deduction. one of the guys was a local ferrari "guru" that knows "everything" about ferrari's because he has a 330gtc. the other was a person that sells replacement ferrari parts.

since when does originailty get trumped by replacement, new looking stuff, i don't know. it's why i don't show cars anymore.

Great! That settles it for me now. Back to the cloth-covered hose. Thank you, all.

As RAcerboy has suggested, installed a braided hose in place of the Cavis this afternoon. This seems to take the same size as the hose from the intake manifold to the brake servo. Thank you, fellow Dino owners for tying this issue down and posting the pictures.
